Isn't it what we're all looking for? I've offered some remarks on a few of the posted demos. Could someone please critique my demo?
Regards,
Darrell MacInnis

I like your productions, the demo does start off a little slow though... I would change the first three you have there (they all sound the same), and maybe start off with one of the last half ones to mix it up and keep it interesting. The last half of your demo is very good!

Darrell,
Overall it's a decent demo that doesn't quite do justice to your voice. I really liked your voice for a number of reasons... you have a somewhat different, down-to-earth tonality to it that we don't hear often from 'professional voice talents', and many of your reads were nicely done. I particularly liked the presentation on the construction piece. But the demo, as a whole, kind of lacked energy or momentum. I found myself drifting a bit, as the pacing and level stayed pretty much the same throughout.
Also, you had an unusual pronunciation of "formidable" at the beginning... a British variation, perhaps? I may be wrong, but I've always heard it pronounced here in the States as "FORM-uh-duh-bull" not "for-MID-uh-bull." If I'm wrong, believe me, I take my lumps and will gladly stand corrected.
But your voice is pleasant, your delivery is good, I'd just like to hear more variety in both styles and energies.
Best of luck to you!

Hey Darrell,
good voice. 2nd half of the demo was really tight. maybe take some of that, and put it up front.
cheers,
pax

Darrell:
As invited, I listened critically to your demo.
It's impressive (and a little daunting) to hear how many good talents are out there, to which list you obviously belong. The riches of choice for V123 customers is amazing.
That being the case, you have to be ultra-careful that one sudden off-putting thing isn't in your demo. Your un-American 'formidable' - as mentioned - is one. So keep it simpler. (But be aware that we of a differing diction can actually stand us in good stead for international-type projects.)
Personally, I don't understand why the voicing world still views one compendium demo as a necessity. At V123, we send along demos best suited to specific posting. Therefore, I do not believe a long, varied demo such as yours is that important anymore.
A client looking for your excellent John deere and Tech TV tones, for example, does not need to wade through the other stuff. I now believe in stockpiling many :20 sec clips of various styles, and sending along whichever suits the project.
It's working pretty well for me. Great stuff, great chords. You'll be fine.
