Since there seems to be a drought of Leads here at Voice123 (so far I have received only 4 SmartCast invitations during the entire month of July), there is a corresponding shortage of Reads. So I am dipping into the pile from Voices just to have something to post.
It was a kind of wierd project: a couple of parody videos for self-promotion or a staff meeting or something along those lines. Part 1 was supposed to be done as if Casey Kasem were doing a DVD offer on TV. Part 2 was video of a bunch of monkeys working in a TV control room and their lines were to be done as Peter Falk, Gilbert Gottfried and Christopher Lloyd.
Warning: the demo runs about 2.5 minutes.

Why, thank you, ma'am. (That was Falk.)

I received lead the other day (could have been yesterday…I dunno) from V123 and the copy was written in Spanish. V123 really nailed it and matched the call to my profile perfectly.
ALO, MY NAME IS AMANDO AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SAY THIS BUT...I WANT TO BE ON YOU.

I hate when they use the wrong preposition.

Just got this:
This is for a local Mercedes Benz commercial spot. Looking for a strong male voice....a "car commercial" voice.
Thanks!
Budget: 30-50
Really? You're selling $75,000 cars and you want $30 v-o? Un-freaking-believable.

I feel like soaking my body in SCOTCH!!!
Hard to believe isn’t it, Chris? What are those people thinking? Even cable (cox…time warner….comcast) all of them pay more than that…and that’s before negotiation.
I quoted a rate that will certainly cause the poor production guy to experience immediate chest pains. What really surprised me is that Voice 123 actually posted that lead. Well…I shouldn’t be surprised, should I? Is is Happy Hour yet?

Hope y'all are well. It turns out I won the gig for my final v123 audition, but it seems I haven't missed much since then. It's slow at the other p2p sites too, but there's still worthwhile stuff.
These are recorded on my ol' Heil PR40 with my new Speck 5.0 MicPre.

As my contribution to a sparse week of auditions, here's one that I thought came out pretty well. One of two TV ads for a regional chain of grocery stores. I'd really like to know what could have been better, so please feel free to tell me.

David - there is absolutely no way to know what the client is hearing in their heads. If I was casting, I think your voice is great and "right" for the supermarket chain, but I heard a lot of "push" to the delivery - not just chatting with the listener. Listen for the regular hits on words throughout the read. You wouldn't push those words so hard if you were just telling someone about the Kroger tradition.
I did two takes recently for an audition (not V123) and was playing them back in my mom's room at the rehabilitation facility where she has been the past two weeks after a knee replacement. Her roommate was listening as well and after the second cut, she said that she didn't think it sounded right - that she liked the first cut. The first one was just me - the me I now know - and the second take was a stab at being someone else without a lot of character development, so the 'hits" felt wrong to her. My exercise is to really listen to it and figure out what she was hearing and why.
