| Lori Furth wrote: | Did everyone see the newest choice of membership at voices-com? For a mere $1,995 per year, you can be part of an exclusive group of 100 voiceover artists (first-come, first-serve), with commensurate benefits (like access to 10 new websites, higher profile on voices-com, etc.)
So, who's in?? |
I responded as best I could to the offer by cancelling my membership. As someone else pointed out, the only way to make this work for those who paid the two grand a year, is to steer the premium auditions their way. voices-com, & V123, no longer seem a viable way to work in the VO industry, and, I must admit, my ROI has not been what I'd hoped. My marketing elsewhere, in the more traditional methods, (mailings, phone calls, contacts, etc.) are paying off well. Plus, I don't have to deal with offers to do a 10 minute narration for the grand sum of 50 dollars.
I've come to the conclusion that these sites really don't offer enough to warrent the time and the expense to continue with them. They're more a giant carrot on a stick that you never catch. Just send us two hundred more dollars, and we'll send you the rest of the secrets. For five hundred more, we'll send you the secrets the professionals use. For two thousand, even more secret secrets.
Good luck with the sites...I'm sticking the the "old school" marketing, which does work.... _________________ Scott F.

Scott, I'm pretty much thinking along the same lines as you are. I suspect by the time all my memberships run out in these places I'll have no compelling reason to renew. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Scott squared, I agree as well. I'm finding more success the old-fashioned way. |

For those who may not have received this email this morning, here's a portion from Vox Daily:
Platinum Membership FAQs
We've received some related questions that I would like to answer here for you:
1. I'm a Premium member. How will the Platinum membership affect my membership?
The Platinum membership differs from the Premium membership in name only with regard to the services received on the voices-com site.
To clarify, Platinum members are not going to get better jobs at voices-com, they will not get the jobs first, nor are they ranking higher than Premium members.
Premium members and Platinum members receive the same features and benefits at voices-com. It's the additional services provided outside of the voices-com site that differentiate these memberships.
2. Why is the Platinum membership available?
We have received feedback from many professional voice talent over the past couple of years asking for a service such as this. After much thought and consideration we decided to present a more robust level of service to fill that need.
3. What Differentiates the Platinum membership from the Premium membership?
Platinum is based upon the Premium membership with the addition of 4 very specific and highly valuable offerings that are exclusive to the new Platinum level of service.
Those 4 offerings are:
1. Listings on any or all of the 10 partner websites
2. Participation in the voices-com Advertising Network
3. Public Relations service (2 press releases per year for members)
4. Exclusive monthly reports providing insider information, marketing strategies and industry trends _________________ Dave DeAndrea

Y'know, call me stupid (here it comes) but I sure don't see $2000 worth of advantages here. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

The advantage is that it makes voices-com an additional 200,000 a year without actually providing tangible benefit to the sucker, I mean, Subscriber who paid for the platinum service..... _________________ Scott F.

I think there's a huge advantage to this new service. I think it affords all of the people who believe Voice123 is the scourge of the universe and Voices-dot-com is the swellest bunch of nice folk who ever lived, the opportunity to step back, take a deep breath, and realize that both services are basically the same -- and get over it. _________________ For more voice over demos, my life story, and other foolishness, please visit my website at www.leegordonproductions.com |

As my agent gets some $2,000/year from my earnings anyway, and my favourite voice site is heading towards the same cut (at 15% of jobs won), I was very much inclined to jump in for the Platinum offer, especially since I'm one of those clamouring for a high-profile, high-rate PTP playground.
I hesitated and froze, however, when the kind and personable people at Voices answered my query with the clarification that there is no difference between Premium and Platinum members in the audition process.

How about a site that accepts you because a professional human being thinks you're good and doesn't charge you anything until they get you a job.
I can't stand the idea that anyone is accepted as long as they have the cash. _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com

2000 bucks now moves voices into one of the most expensive services of it’s kind. Not saying that talented people won’t spend 2000, but what will most likely happen it’ll be the folks that aren't booking jobs and think that this extra exposure will help. So voices-com won’t be putting their best voices in front but the so-so voice talent, with $2000, will get the exposure. This is not a good business move for voices. Which leads me to the old show biz saying, “Hey Kid, all show business is....is 10% talent and 90% hype.” So congratulations to voices-com for showcasing the Platinum voice 10%. What’s that other saying...”there’s one born every minute”
That’s my 10% of two cents worth.
