Hi group
I've just switched over from a PC to a MacbookPro. I'm setting up the software and I'm thinking of using Garageband as it comes w/ the system. Could someone give me feedback on using Garageband? Do you like it? Easy to edit? Etc?
Thanks for the input
Enjoy the day

Love it. Very easy to use. Editing is a snap with Garageband.
Metering could be better.
Go to http://www.rndigital.org/inspector.html
and download their free metering plug in for Garageband. |

Nikki,
I haven't used it in awhile, but the main drawback I recall is that it can be difficult to get precise edits sometimes, as the waveform (at least on the version I used) is on a grid. So, if your edit point is between two markers even at maximum resolution, you're stuck.
Otherwise, it's relatively easy to use and can be a good backup plan even when you have more advanced software. |

With respect, Garageband '08 (v 4.1.2) can edit the waveform in gradations of hundredths of a second. If you need more precise editing capability than that, you are probably overthinking the process.
I can tell you, as a recording musician with over 30 years of studio experience, that using advanced recording software like Digital Performer or Pro Tools for voice over is akin to using a Ferrari to go to the corner store for milk.
For both the new or experienced VO talent, Garageband is easy to use, high speed, high output production software. And it's cheap - it's free with every Mac. |

| As I said, I haven't used it in a while. If a newer version allows for more fluid editing...bravo. |

Super easy and very efficient program, and plays well with others. Like most Mac programs.
That being said, I use ProTools for work, because I had it first. Now and then, I go in and play in Garageband, but I have an older version. _________________ Diane

You could also try your hand at Audacity for Mac. You can Google to locate it and it's free. A very simple editing application that you might find easier to use than Garageband. It will not save audio files directly to the mp3 format, however - you'd have to convert them, if mp3's are indeed the file type of choice.
Hope this helps!
