Warm, inviting, and hip, to be sure, is admittedly a difficult hybrid.

Again, however, it's all good. I only kvetch as part of my continuing (and fading) campaign to put a bit of vinegar into the L and R honey pot.

Given a choice between being totally ignored by the majority of Voices-dot-com and Voice123 seekers or being marinated in some of Mr. Jadah's acetic acid, I'll take the pickling any day. I totally agree that warm, inviting and hip is a pretty tall order so I just gave 'em what I had -- knowing that the closest I'm likely to get to "hip" is a Voice123 job I did last month -- about hip replacements.

Kvetch on.

No, no, no...it's hep, as in, "That is one hep cat." Aren't I just the cat's pajamas? Well, 22 skidoo and so's your old man!

Not to nitpick or anything, but it's 23 skidoo.

I'm so hep I don't need the extra "one". You can have it.

Anybody have that great Dave Frishberg song, I'M HIP? It would fit so beautifully here. I have an old version poor quality or else I would have posted it (as well as other versions in propriety format iTunes including my friend John Pizzarelli's, who is both hip AND hep.)

Melba, Lee:

Allowing for inflation, shouldn't it be 24 or 25 Skidoo by now? Rolling Eyes

Pumped another one out this morning. Phone greeting, not very much direction given here. I got a little creative.

The party's at my place. Come on over!

With inflation and CPI figures ranging from 1920 to 2007, I estimate that 23 skidoo might now be approximately 275 to 280 skidoo. But that takes too long to say -- forget trying to text it!

And because this is L&R, after all, I'll submit my delusions of grandeur to pickling. Non-v123, three different characters: young middle age vague 2nd generation caucasian immigrant sound (say that 10 times fast); 55 year old midwest; 80 year old from anywhere.

After a frustrating week trying to get this video converted so I could upload it online for an audition, thanks to Robert Jadah's masterful assistance in this thread it's finally up and running.

This is a video audition I submitted for "Lewis Grizzard: In His Own Words"--a critically-acclaimed one-man show based on the life and writings of humorist Lewis Grizzard as performed by Bill Oberst (who's a member here incidentally). Bill's moving to LA within the next couple months and he's assisting in helping the Grizzard estate to select a performer to hand the role over to.

While I do lots of other impressions, this was my first attempt at Lewis Grizzard. And I had very little time to prepare for this performance when I taped it. Watching it now, I do feel my performance is a little rushed and the voice and mannerisms could be improved (especially in the first half of the video), but I'm pleased with how the second half turned out. And I can't help but be personally impressed with the physical transformation: it looks nothing like me, and I think resembles Lewis quite a bit.

If you're a YouTube subscriber, feel free to rate and leave comments. Who knows--maybe they'll help me get the gig. Much to my surprise, someone added a comment within 15 minutes after I uploaded it.

[Tried posting this Saturday, but the forum server was apparently down temporarily.]

Well, this is a first for any audition I've ever submitted getting a reply so quickly, but I got an email from Bill (mentioned above) just a few short hours after I emailed my audition to him.

He gave me some very positive comments and said he would be forwarding my audition to the Grizzard estate since he's only making recommendations for the role.

I don't know how it's going to go from this point, but after getting a reply like this I'd say my chances of getting the gig have increased exponentially.

Here's hoping...
