Hi all. I'm new to voice-over work. I hope to get some good advice and maybe find some leads.

Derrick, Derrick, Derrick....
I was debating whether to say anything or not after listening to your demos on your voice123 page, but SOMEONE's going to say this.
Why do you want to get into voiceovers? This question is not asked in meanness, it's asked to get YOU to answer it realistically.
Your demos need to come off your page now.
You need to read this thread NOW if you haven't already:
http://voiceoversavvy.com/ftopic4098.html
You need a LOT, LOT, LOT of training, classes, instruction, and much, much more before you'll ever be able to even think of competing in this.
C'mon, Derrick. This is a real, legitimate profession, just as yours is as a database programmer. I would never in a million years walk into your office simply because I had programmed speed dial into my cell phone and say "Hey, I want to be a network IT consultant!"
I want you to be very, very, VERY painfully realistic about whether you're making an honest decision about going into voiceovers or not.
If you do this and succeed, I promise I will be the first to cheer you. But I'm not sure you've really researched, listened, studied, explored or understood what this profession entails.
All the best. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

If you'll notice, Derrick is a Premier member, so apparently that didn't stop Voice123.com from taking his money.
interesting |

Derrick,
What Scott said.
The longer you have those hissing recordings on your site..the harder it will be to take you seriously.
Get hold of a good voice coach (in person locally), and let him/her tell you if they think you can even do this.
Not trying to demean or be mean..just keeping it real.
Good luck. |

I'll take his Premier membership . . . . I mean if he is wanting to get out lol hahaha Jk
No really, derek I too am very new to the business, but I have been researching my rearend off before I even joined the forum. If you really are interested in making this a career then take it serious. Browse the profiles and see how much different they sound than yours. Take down your files that you have now if you want to make friends around here. It kind of sounds like you are making fun of the career by not putting a lot of effort in your work. Just my thoughts. |
