Okay, so now I'm doing about the ONLY IVR job I've ever done and the guy needs:

CCITT u-Law (G711a), 8kHz, 8 bit, mono (recommended)
PCM, 8kHz, 16 bit, mono

I'm recording in Cool Edit Pro 2.0.
Anyone who can tell me how to export or save as to this type of file type? Thanks!

Scott,

I don't know Cool Edit, but it can be done in Sound Forge.

You can download a trial and give it a shot.

If you're in a crunch, I'd be happy to convert your files for you. Save me a step and save them at an 8khz sample rate. If not, I can fix that, too.

Actually, you don't need to convert to 8khz, turns out Sound Forge takes care of that step, too. Like I said, let me know if I can help. Friends and family rate - free Very Happy

Under the 'save as' menu, the third option down is A/mu-law Wave (.wav)

Then click on 'options' and you have two options to make it fit either A-law, 8-bit, or Mu-law, 8-bit.

I figured Cool Edit had it, just wasn't sure where to look for it.

OK, I now am in this wrinkle (glad I searched the forums...)

I am doing everything already mentioned, getting actually quite a decent sound in Sound Forge 9.0c, saving to CCITT u-Law 8/8 WAV, BUT it insists on leaving a tiny BLAP of audio from elsewhere in the file at the very end, and I just cannot remove it! Moreover, when I first save to this format, it also insists on saving into a 16-bit workspace window so it looks to me like the file is still 16-bit, and it seems to sound that way too, so am not quite sure I've hit all the steps despite confirming that I was saving to the right codec/format.

Any further info anyone has that directly addresses my particular situation, would be much appreciated, thanks.
