We recently had a question about a starter setup but never reached a consensus on what that setup should be. This poll will attempt to do just that. I am placing some requirements on the setup: 1) It should be capable of both record and playback; and 2) It should be exclusive of mic, speakers and headphones (those can be dealt with in separate threads); 3) It shouldn't break the bank (it's so easy to spend other people's money).

If you select other, please describe your suggested setup.

Are you looking for the best setup for only those just starting out and on a budget or the best setup, period?

The former. For someone just starting out and without breaking the bank.
