I'm soon going to start experimenting with using a laptop HD in an external case (USB 2.0 connection) with my laptop to record. The drive is a 4200 IDE. The recording is just for my voice and occasionally two voices. Is 4200 fast enough?
I could go to a 7200 (or faster) normal size drive in an external case, but I would have to buy something. I have the laptop drive in hand. |

| Check out Audacity. There should be a setting which lets you cache audio to RAM, then you export your audio to HD after the fact in wav or whatever format you choose. This way the HD does not have to work in real time. |
