I have just started setting up my equipment. So far I have:
Rode NT1-A
Alesis iO14 firewire interface
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80ohm headphones
I have started padding a decent sized walk-in closet but I am still saving for a good combination of REALLY heavy moving blankets and actual acoustic foam. However, I cannot seem to get a clear answer on whether or not I need an equalizer / mixing board or compressor or other components in addition to the chain I have. I have been using software for EQ and so far it has been working fairly well (at least until I finish with the padding on the walls). |

For just voice-over work, I don't think you NEED a mixer or compressor. If you have decent software and learn how to use the dynamic efx and EQ you'll be fine.
Getting the acoustics of your room right will more benefcial.
FYI: I have alot of outboard hardware because I do full commercial
production, but the stuff built into the software works great, too.
I use Adobe Audition and the processing is very good if you learn how to customize it for your needs. |
