Hey! I am looking for a good in-home mic to use with my computer. i noticed today that the Marshall MXL.007 Stereo Condenser USB Microphone has a USB plug and can record directly into my computer, which sounds awesome, the only problem is that I can't find reviews regarding it's performance since it's so new. has anyone tried it? recommendations? i noticed it's predacessor was reviewed as
having "too much self noise". does anyone have any advice about this or other mics? thanks in advance!

Katharyn, first question: any particular reason, why you'd need a stereo mic for voice-over?
Second question: any particular reason, why you'd wanna spend $189.00 (srp) on a USB mic, rather than getting a mic + preamp combo for the (about) same money?

I don't have experience with this particular USB mic, or any other USB mics, but I'm almost positive you'll get better results with any of these combo's: (all at zzounds.com)

ART Tube MP USB preamp - $99.95 + Marshall MXL V67G - $99.95
or
ART Tube MP USB preamp - $99.95 + Audio-Technica AT2020 - $99.95

Both combo's each a total of $200, far more better spend, if you ask me Very Happy

EDIT: Oh by the way, welcome to the forum!!

I have the Samson C01U USB Mic and it's really fantastic. It's plug and play, hardly any set up neccessary. I would get a shock mount for sure, but other than that it's been really great.

Hey Hannibal,

I've got the C01U and I don't think it's a problem with the mic, but I've been using Audacity, I've tried very hard to limit how many programs are running when I'm recording, and I still get these little blips here and there in the recording sometimes. Any ideas?

mmmm, I have been thinking what could it be... by coincidence I use Audacity too, regular not beta (this one is no very stable yet) but also use Adobe audition. And I don´t have that problem at all.
Which kind of computer are you using? Usually when I record I turn off all programs and I disconnect from internet.
Did you try to uninstall Audacity and install it again...? Sometimes it helps with some programs.
Tell me if you have any news.

Hannibal

Maybe next time I'll disconnect from the Internet. Hadn't tried that yet. Any ideas for a newcomer to the site? I'ms ure everyone's looking for tips on how to better their chances of getting invitations, but any would be appreciated!

By the way, I'm using a toshiba satellite A75 with the first version of audacity.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi
Here's a good link for optimizing your computer for recording:

http://www.jakeludington.com/ask_jake/20050225_optimize_your_pc_for_audio_and_video.html

And another good site for mic and equipment evaluations is:

http://www.gearslutz.com/board/

Hope that helps

Aaron, could the blips be related to your processor speed? You might investigate whether you need a faster CPU.
