Hi everybody! I'm Howard, and I do the same thing as everyone else on here, lol. Anyways, I'm happy to be here, but I gotta question, and may post this elsewhere, but, does anyone know where and for how much I can get a copy of Adobe Audition 1.0, 1.5, or 2.0, or is there another editing program you might recommend for a PC?

Thanks and have fun,
Howard.

Welcome Howard!

I use SoundForge, Magix Audio Cleaning Lab and Acid.

Adobe Audition seems to be the most popular around here, and can be purchased online.

A free alternative for those just starting out is Audacity.

Hope this helps,

Audacity is a great start. Audition is a step up (what i am currently using, it seems like the induastry standard is Pro Tools.

You can fully licensed version of Audition on eBay for $300. Be carfeul not to get the academic version. A lot of sellers will try to say it is ok, but it isn't.

Try to find a used copy of Audition 1.5 (maybe eBay) it was the last release that wasn't screwed up by Adobe. It is what I use. Someday, I'll have Pro Tools but it requires special hardware. The best package there is the M-Audio Projectmix I/O w/Pro Tools M-Powered but you are talking $1300. You CAN get a cheap M-Audio interface for less than $200 and the Pro Tools M-Powered for $249 to run through it.

Thanks for the help on this subject, I may check into SoundForge, I've heard about it recently but I know very little about it. As for Adobe, I've had a lot of trouble trying to find anything on ebay or Amazon for any version of it besides 2.0, and the only one I found of 1.5 was asking the same price as 2.0, so I skipped out on it. I'll keep checking, but again, thanks for your help, I need all the help I can get on this issue.

I use Audition 2. I've never used an earlier version so I can't compare it to 1.5, but I can say that Adobe Audition 2 is very user friendly, does everything you could ever want from a recording/editing program even multi tracking and it comes with a slew of useful effects with plugin support for things such as Waves plugin bundles. it's powerful...easy to use and 350 dollars from Adobe. Again, whether it's better or worse than version 1.5 I can't say, but I love it and have no need to look for any other program....why would I? I can do anything I need to with it easily.

How much RAM/Memory does the Adobe Audition 2.0 take up?

They say on the box 512 minimum, 1 GB recommended. I just installed it the other day but havn't had time to play with it. I still use 1.5 for every day. You can have both versions on the same machine at the same time. One caveat, 2.0 requires Internet activiation. You can install it on two machines, after that you get rejected. If you want to move it to another machine you have to remove the activiation from the current one. If you crash and you've used your two activations, you'll have to call and plead your case with Adobe. Very annoying.

I've not used Adobe, but have researched it a bit.

SoundForge isn't directly comparable. You'll need Acid to compete with AA's features. Acid is their multi-track sequencer/arranger/editor/publisher doo-hicky. SoundForge is more of a single-track recorder with some built in editing and effects.

As I mentioned before, I also use Magix Audio Cleaning Lab. It has some very nice features for handling recording.

I like the combination of SoundForge/Acid/Magix because I'm a bit more comfortable with the interfaces. Although AA's more $$$, a single, consistent interface is a plus...

Any AA users wanna chime in?

Joe-
I haven't used Soundforge, but after researching and reading every post on here about this stuff, I went for Audition because of the single interface. My hunch is that either will give you about the same quality.

Last question, does anyone know anything about Cubase LE, and would be a substitute for something like Adobe or SoundForge?
