My beautiful gold Pop Filter arrived today (thanks Todd!).
It has no instructions. My question is....how far from a dynamic microphone (blue snowball) should it be placed? _________________ 865-686-8925

| George, I read that rule of thumb is, your mouth is a hand width away from the mike, i.e. Small finger at the mic, to thumb width at the lips, like blowing raspberries, doing that would put your popper stopper between your mouth and the mic. that sounds confusing, about 2-3 inches from the mic, and 2-3 inches from your mouth. However, I have small hands, so maybe its different for a guy. |

George - it should be placed approximately 250 miles North of your studio ... in my studio. Thank you in advance.

Todd-
I tried to have it delivered directly to you, but some idiot blocked the way with a four hundred year old well. _________________ 865-686-8925

My guess is that if you placed yourself about 1 mile away from the blue snowball you'd sound better than if you had a pop filter between you and it.
If you take it apart, you'll find a tin can and a string inside.
But then again, I'm sure that there are a lot of commercial fisherman using a Popeil pocket fishing pole and surgeons operating with butter knives.
I'm not saying mortgage the farm to buy gear but I don't think using a Mr. Microphone is goingto get you anywhere. |

Wow, Gilbert bites again. I know I don't have a great mic. But it is better than the one I had. I appreciate your advice and I plan to get better equipment as I can. However, the Blue Snowball has been rated as the only USB mic to begin to bridge the gap between USB and "antique" (sorry about the jab ) style mics.
So is that a statute mile or a nautical mile J.S.?
BTW, I see you posts in other places. You seem like one smart dude but really caustic. Are you angry about something I said? _________________ 865-686-8925

In defense of the Blue Snowball ... granted it's not a U87 - it is, however a pretty good "starter" or travel USB condenser mic with a relatively flat response. As a matter of fact Rodney Salsbury uses one as his travel mic, and (I've heard) has even voiced final cuts with it.
What you'll find if you take it apart - is a fairly decent dual-capsule condenser mic you can plug right into your laptop. imho. |

George, I think J.S. was trying to make a point with humor. I really don’t think he was trying to make you feel bad. And I'm writing this to maybe make you feel...better, I hope!
Have you heard Gilbert's stuff? Go have a listen, read what is on his site and you’ll see he’s got the experience and talent and must work like a dog. How he has time to read stuff and post on Savvy is beyond me. But for all the ruffled feathers, he's got a wealth of knowledge and he's not trying to fool someone out of their money or trick someone into anything or lying about the future. I think he really wants to help. _________________ Phyllis K. |
