Oh man oh man oh man! MY KIND OF THREAD! Yeah, 'Ember knows the music that tickles my soul. I'm a big-time ambient kind of guy.

Haven't heard of Sarah Brightman, but I'm diggin' this, 'Ember. Sounds like a cross between Morsheeba, Sarah McClaughlin and... um... the Corrs? Nice stuff.

Here's my contribution; a guy who's been making top-notch ambient/techno almost as long as Brian Eno: Patrick O'Hearn. This is called 'Drive'.

Scott: oh, nice one! I will definitely be putting that one into my personal rotation Smile

Simon: I don't have an instrumental version of Deliver Me....and it kills me because I do believe it's the first time someone has asked me for a piece of music I don't have!!! AAARRRGGGHHHH!! Crying or Very sad On the other hand, as far as I can tell, no instrumental version of it exists, so there may be no way I could ever possess it Wink

Jacob: glad you'll be around!! Smile

Did you catch Sarah Brightman in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade? Hadn't seen her in a while.... it was cool.

For those of you into the ambient suff, I've got a friend here locally who does some pretty amazing stuff. Check out his myspace page...

'Ember... I REALLY enjoyed the rain song because for the first time in years we're getting a soaking here right now and we'll take every drop we can get.

So....
Shameless plug, here. But it fits into the thread.

I am weeks away from releasing my second c.d. of all original ambient music. My first c.d. is on cdbaby.com. This one is about to go to the disc duplicators for pressing, and is called "Artifacts" based on the title track which was inspired by the "Titanic: Artifacts" exhibit. I wrote and performed every piece on here, AND you'll hear the lovely Claire Dodin singing her original lyrics on one of the songs. Attached you'll find a 6:00 preview montage which includes snippets from 15 of the 16 tracks on the c.d.

I'll let you all know when it's available, and please give me your feedback. Thanks for putting up with this!

Gonna jump the gun early by posting this on a Thursday.

Below is another Patrick O'Hearn piece that I LOVE, called "Beyond the Moment". What's interesting about this is that it actually inspired the piece that's going to be on my upcoming c.d. called "Goodnight Miss Louise" (which includes an instrumental version AND a vocal version by Claire Dodin).

I'll include the instrumental version of "Miss Louise" for comparison. It's not meant to sound like the O'Hearn piece; only that it was INSPIRED by it.

Oh what the heck, why not hog the whole thread?

This may be my alltime favorite ambient piece done by Mark Isham waaaaaaaay waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the mid '80's. Called "On the Threshold of Liberty" it was instrumental (no pun intended) in getting me hooked on this type of music. Isham was with Windham Hill records at the time and has since gone on to be a very successful soundtrack composer, having done the soundtracks for, among others: "Never Cry Wolf", "Mrs. Soffel", "Country", "Crash", "October Sky", "A River Runs Through it", "Fly Away Home" and about 50 other films.

NOTE:!!! This is a 7:00+ long song. I had to downsample it to 64khz to be able to upload it here.

I wasn't going to be a name dropper but since you brought up Windham Hill, I figured I could mention that Will Ackerman and I were high school classmates.

Sorry, can't help myself, but I LOVE this kind of music.
Whenever I get a chance I listen to Pandora.com where you can pretty much program your own stations. I have a LOT of ambient stations there and daily learn about new artists and songs I haven't heard before, and the ones you like you can go download from iTunes. This is today's download for me.

"Autumn Interlude" by Amethysium.

Enjoy.

LEE: very cool about Will Ackerman. Great musician, too. My pastor went to Bible college with the late, great Rich Mullins.
