Do you know why you have a sinus click? The best option is to remove the cause. Have you got a cold? Do you smoke?
Maybe you could try steaming (on its own or with a few drops of tea tree essential oil in the water). You can buy a little steamer for very cheap at drugstores. It works wonders for me when my voice is tired or when I have a cold.
It humidifies and reduces inflammation in your whole respiratory system (it helps with all sorts of noises).
Steam for a good hour or two before the recording.
Good luck!

Hi Claire, thanks for your post!

I've noticed this for at least 8 months now. I've had colds just like everyone, but not for the entire duration. I stay away from smoke. I've tried "steaming" for half an hour before, but never for a full hour. I suppose I could give that a try!

Thanks again,
Bret

I have to note - it's incredible that I created this thread LAST NIGHT, and it's now the #1 result on Google for the terms...

Weird.

From what I've seen on my domains, the Google spiders crawl once or twice an hour. The index is usually updated within 72 hours.

This wasn't actually an issue originating in my sinuses.

As it turns out, this problem starts with the way the middle and back of my tongue hits the roof of my mouth. The solution is to re-train my tongue so it can relax more quickly.

At the moment, I'm cutting off the airflow traveling up my pharynx (the oropharynx) in a short burst by the movement of my tongue, which creates a "pop" or "click" which can be heard in my ears and throughout my sinus cavities.

There you have it! It's going to take awhile to train away this habit, but at least I have a direction now!

Cheers!

maybe this will help to relax your tongue:

give it a good stretch pointing down towards your chin..
hold it there for about 30 secs and then slowly release the tension and let it return back to your mouth easily..

do this a couple times before cutting a demo or doing a gig..

*** hat tip to my voice coach Maria, a certified McClosky Method technician ...

do it often enough and you can be part of a KISS tribute band...

Be Well
