Hi voice actors;
I have worked in the entertainment business for 20 plus years as an actor and a stuntman. After being told by my agent that I had a good voice for the VO business, I attended a 1 day class. The class contacted me shortly after offering their class and a demo for about $3000. Seemed a little steep to me.
I have access to a professional recording studio so my question is:
Should I spend that kind of money for training or should I try to record on my own? Seriously...
Brian

That is a little steep...after just "knowing" a person one day. This obviously is the business the conference giver is in. And he/she is welcome to it. Everybody's gotta make a living.
However, you might ask around, your agent, other folks in VO out there where you live...and get more than just one person/company to choose from. Personally, I would not get training from the same person/company who produces my demo unless that person is a VO artist and producer who is doing well in the business. But that's just me. Learn from those who do, is my motto.
If your contacts in audio production have some experience producing VO demos (and I bet they do) it's entirely possible for you to put out a good first demo with a little conferring with your agent and/or a voice casting agent -- if you can get their ear as a mentor.
Best of luck! |
