Like you, I am just starting in this business. Listening, learning, reading, learning... But one important lesson I've learned here is to get advice and critique, but research where it's coming from. There are many wonderful people here who will help you...
Read past posts. Get a feel for people. It will also save you some posting time yourself, because your questions may have already been answered.
Above all, if you're as determined as I am to do this, never ever give up.
Good luck! _________________ Kim White |

Excellent advice Kim, even for those of us who've been around a while.
Even for those of us who've been around a while, it's very easy to get stuck in a rut without keeping up with industry trends and peer feedback.

|
| I was wondering if it is worth it to buy the premium membership to Voice123 or can I make it with just the standard membership? I get my email box full of proposals, but I cannot apply to any of them unless I have a premium membership. I don't want to spend the money if it is not worth it or is not necessary to get started.... |

Wise words in a wordy wisey kinda way. Beware the "10 minute expert" - 1 crack at a demo, one page out of a voice coaching book, received a critique and suddenly they are the VO expert. At the other end of the scale is the "I've been doin' VO for 30 years and been PD at over 73 radio stations". Not only has he forgotten more than you'll ever know he has also forgotten everything he ever knew. Of course there is Mr 3 national spots before breakfast too "Y'all have 2 chances in this binizz, little n none".
Read the posts, listen to the demo's and above all SEE THROUGH THE BULLSH*T!
In answer to Michael's question above. Only pay to join if you have the money to write-off and if you have a great deal of time to submit endless auditions for jobs that even if you get them are for the most part not worth having. I always suggest that voices charge themselves a fee to audition, say $20. When you eventually get a job see how much you've paid in audition fees to get it. Ensure you value your time, as a voice over you should do that from day 1.
