Greetings fellow voice talkers, happy to be aboard.
Here I am nestled in the Hudson Valley halfway between NYC and Albany, reaching out into cyberspace to all of you.
I am returning to the realm of professional VO after well over a decade in live theater. Truth is, I'm tired of getting injured on-stage as well as being away on tour from my nauseatingly-cute children.

I specialize in character voices, but find myself performing lots of live announce gigs as of late. Whatever the case, I absolutely love what I do. It's all showbiz to me and that's enough to keep me happy.

Of course, as a new arrival here, I'm inviting any feedback on my demos from other trained ears and look forward to being part of the voice123 community.

I'll probably spend alot of time this Autumn/Winter shopping for pro-audio gear on eBay so I can live the dream of the home studio and ween myself off-stage.

So, a fresh start and positive outlook are what I'm working with. Love to get suggestion on what mistakes to avoid, just as much as what to work towards.
Thank you all in advance for your support!
-Carl Welden

Hi Carl,

Welcome! I grew up in the Hudson Valley (Woodstock to be exact) but went to school in Kingston. It's a beautiful place to live!

I have fond memories of the Catskill Game Farm. Like the time when I was about 8 yrs. old and I was feeding the animals with those big crackers and this giant llamma came over and began eating my dress! He had it down his throat past my undies before my parents noticed! Yuk, I had to spend the rest of the day in a saliva soaked dress. Oh, those were the days . . .

Good luck to you and give my regards to Tinker Street!

Christine

Thank you John and Christine.
I'd forgotten about the game farm until I noticed it's billboard on the Thruway was gone. I went once in the 80's.

I perform in Kingston and Woodstock pretty often.

I perform at venues in Kingston and Woodstock pretty often actually, though I'm generally more of a New Paltz character.
Kingston is starting to yeild a few VO leads fortunately, so the ball is rolling!

Hi Carl --
Nice range of voices on the demo. To get more people to critique it, I'd post it in the Critique my Demo section. We need more character voice people around here -- adds to the fun!
Love the Hudson Valley -- I'm a big fan of HVSF at Boscobel in Garrison, and one of my favorite getaways is the Mohonk Mt House.

And you probably haven't been in NH long enough to have experienced a part of my childhood: Benson's Wild Animal Farm. It was just outside of Nashua, in Hudson, but it closed down in 1987. It was just about the closest thing to a zoo that we had in NH. Of course, if we wanted to go to a real zoo we'd go to Franklin Park Zoo in Boston.

yup... i remember Benson's quite well, Lee ...
did a remote there during the summer of 1980..
after a downpour shorted out the portable broadcast table, we took a nice stroll around the place..
now its in limbo between being condos or a public park...

Be Well
