|
My life has taken a drastic change a few days ago. I was told by my doctor that I am type 2 diabetic and have to go on medication (metformin) till I get it under control with diet and exercise , and lose some weight. It took me a few days to stop freaking out about it.
So, here's my PSA to you all. Get your blood sugar tested right now. Even if you don't think you need to...for your own good and peace of mind. I was shocked myself. I knew I had gained alot of weight in the last year but, I never had a clue of this. It's amazing how this drama has changed my life right now....reality check time. |

Vic:
First of all, good luck with getting it all back together. On the bright side, you found out in good time, and can now deal with it.
I can sense that you're one tuff nut, and will overcome this setback.
And thanks for the advice. I must take it. I'm 54 and haven't seen a doctor in 7 years.
Hang in. I'm pulling for you.

Victor.... all will be well, trust me.
My father-in-law has been a diabetic for decades and even though he doesn't watch his diet as well as he should, he DOES take his insulin every day and is doing just fine. Slimming down is always a good idea for ALL OF US, regardless of whether you're diabetic, have heart disease, high blood pressure... whatever.
I suspect if you do what your doctor tells you to do you'll be able to lead a normal, happy, healthy and productive life.
My prayers and best wishes are with you and your family! |

Victor,
Sorry to hear of your worry, but I'm a great believer in "everything happens for a reason" You now have the knowledge to take back the control in your life for a healthier you.
Massage is a great help when dealing with diabetes, it aids in good circulation and detoxification, some insurances cover massage these days, I think it will be a help, not to mention calm you down a little.

Victor - My best to you. My Dad was diagnosed about 6 years ago. Diet, a little exercise and a switch from beer to scotch and he's doing better than ever. (scotch has no sugar ya know) He's in Florida riding his Harley and playing golf til May.
As a matter of fact - probably 70% of the males in my family have it. I'm sure It'll be my turn soon. But I already drink scotch - so I've got that going for me!
Watch the portions and take the stairs! |

Appreciate the PSA, Victor.
Glad to hear they caught it early, and it can be treated via diet and exercise.
I (try) to see my doctor at least once per year as a rule of thumb.
We're here for you if you need us (and believe me, I understand panic over health issues!)
Stay healthy,
Joe |

| Victor....I'm very happy to hear that you had it diagnosed early and treatment will help. I'm guilty of not seeing the doctor in years. This is like a wake up call for me to go get a check up. I'm sorry tho that you have to go through this.....but chin up....you caught it early and it's treatable. All the best to you. |

Victor-
Good luck man. You sure do get knocked down a lot, but you have proven you have what it takes to get back up and fight on.
I was told at my last physical that I had to lose weight or I was going to get type II.
We are trying to excersize and eat better. Two (I can't believe I am doing this) vegetarian dinners a week.
Let's all get with it and stop killing ourselves with our abundance.... _________________ 865-686-8925

George (and whoever else needs to shed a few pounds...) my wife has a bit more trouble keeping the pounds off than I do, although at my age (52 in 2 weeks) I do tend to carry that middle-aged man's belly just a tad. So I tend to diet by proxy: when my wife gets on a diet I follow along casually. What has seemed to work best for us is weight watchers. It's cheap and you can even do it online as we are, without actually attending meetings. My wife has lost about 10 pounds since the beginning of November, and I hit my goal weight (down from 186 to 170) in 2 months. What I love about it is that it's really easy to do and you feel terrific. You eat a ton of different foods, it's all healthy, and you can find a million recipes (easy ones, too) online at their site. If you DO need to lose weight, give them a look.
I am now at the same weight I was in college some 33 or so years ago!

Well, its time to get back to being social again with all you guys. Your the best. I just needed some time to ponder my situation. After a couple readjustments to my diet and exercise program, and the right dosage of meds (Metformin), I'm back to my normal life. I took the time to see a diabetic educator and really feel like I have a handle on what I have to do. Anyhow, it's time to move on with life and my friends...you guys. It really took alot of work just to keep up with my steady clients during this time.
Oh, and by the way, GET YOUR BLOOD SUGAR TESTED...lol. |

Glad to see you posting again. MIssed your mug. I heard a show this morning on NPR called "The People's Pharmacy" and they said when you discover your diabetes early and change your diet, loose some weight and exercise, you have a very good chance of being able to stop the medication and control your diabetes by yourself. So the future looks good! My husband is trying to do all those things and we hope he can get off meds too. _________________ Phyllis K. |
