Hey guys,
since I'm likely to get a fair amount of gigs in the future involving dubbing for video, I'm seriously considering upgrading to Wavelab 6 (still on version 4, actually). But you know, I really like my version 4 and really don't need the new features besides video import, so my question is, is there any other software I should look at, instead of throwing almost $500 in for a stripped version of my favorite editing software, just to have video (Wavlab 6 "studio")?? _________________ Regards,

Jacob:
Hello again! I haven't been on the forum too much lately, well, just the last couple of days....so anyway, that's why I haven't written you again in a while. Hope all is well with you.
I'm seriously looking at Digital Performer 5 from Mark of the Unicorn. I know it has features for video importing/syncing...but I don't know much more than that. I know that it is a very impressive music composition application but have never really used it much by myself. Some of the recording studios where I've recorded wouldn't use anything else (well, that or ProTools) - and it's price tag for the full OEM version is just $500 US (much less than the full-blown ProTools rig.) I haven't had any experience with it's audio editing capabilities, either...so all I can do is suggest a look at it to see if it's what you're needing. Since I also do music composition, I'm wanting to look at it to handle all that plus my VO work, too.
Take care, my friend!

Jacob,
I'm not sure if you're PC or Mac, if PC, take a look at Sony Vegas.
I love it. It rocks at video and I'm currently evaluating it as my only audio platform. _________________ www.voiceover1.com |

David,
Yeah, where've you been, dude??
DP5 seems cool, but it's Mac-only, right? So that's out...
Allen,
Vegas, huh? Sure would like to go there (in more ways than one...), but it's exactly the same price as Wavelab 6 (full version), and given the choice, the obvious for me would be Wavelab. That's out too!
Claire,
Adobe Premiere Pro... THAT sound expenssive! But I haven't been able to find pricing info on it on any Danish sites so far.
Funny though, I did find an article that claimed, that there were some FREE alternatives to software similar to this. Avid DV Free was one, and immediatly I thought: "Wow, something FREE from Avid gotta be cool!!" But, it seems Avid DV Free is discontinued
Then I thought: "hey! What about the cheesy Microsoft Movie maker??"
Seriously, would this be worth anything?? _________________ Regards,

that's why in the end, I got adobe premiere pro because I loved adobe audition and I knew they worked together.
Now I'm happy.
You may find that it's just better to upgrade the software you are used to using. In the long run it's worth it. |
Okay Claire, I hear ya... free stuff is out!
And your definately right about upgrading, problem is, that I "skipped a step" in the Wavelab-family, so I don't think I can directly upgrade from Wavelab 4 to 6, as I did from WL 3 to 4 a couple of years ago. So I'd probably have to buy a complete package, and if there was any way to avoid that, then I'D be happy...
But what the heck.... seems like the right thing to do. _________________ Regards,

| I don't know if you've resolved your software issue but I have been looking at a new product from Adobe called Soundbooth which you might want to include in your list. |
