Hello Steve,

Well, to start you have a good microphone, what you should be looking for is a preamp that connects to your computer via USB or Fire wire and editing-recording software for your computer.

Among these you’ll have plenty of options, for starters I always recommend the Fast Track Pro by M Audio, good piece of equipment and it comes with the software you need, here’s a link: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackPro-main.html

Hello:

Let me tell you how I got my home PC studio set up for less than $1000. First, you have a good mic, so that is a non-issue now. Although I'm not a big fan of SHURE mics, I find the RODE mic works better for me as it does tend to soften my voice. But each of us will have different success with different mics, so if the SHURE does the trick for you, stick with that!
Second, I picked up a 4 channel Alesis Mixer with phantom power to powe my mic and preamp and preconditional my vocals prior to going into PC.
Thirdly, be sure to have a reasonable sound card in your PC that will provide above average sound tweaking abilities.
Last, I picked up "Sony" Sound Forge Audio Studio 7.0. It is a very versatile software product for the price and does the basic editing jobs you'll find necessary to accomplish your editing.
All in all, with my mic, mixer, Software and New Sound Card, I spent less than $1000
With the above I find I can do just about any recording mix and editing without too much problem
Hope this helps a bit.

Good Luck and we'll see you at the studio!

David

I got a good condenser mic on eBay for 80 bucks. I plug it into a Behringer four channel mixer with phantom power (condenser mics need power), and plug the mixer into a $30.00 device called a Griffin iMic, which is a USB interface to the computer. Software - Vegas Video, which was made by Sonic Foundry - now Sony. You can download software called "Audacity" (google it) for free - which will get the job done. I also ordered a Samson compressor/limiter on eBay but the seller not only took his sweet time to send it, but misaddressed it the first time, so I don't have it yet..
So far, so good, but if I get a big job I plan to pay for time at a real studio.
My total cost - Mic - 80, Mixer - 99, iMic - 30, compressor - 66 (used)

I want to be able to do high enough quality stuff at home that I can use it professionally. Right now I use Adobe Audition 1.5, I have a low-end mic (Audio Technica ATR-55) and Sony studio monitor headphones (MDR-7506). I just plug the mic and monitors directly into my laptop though.

I'm thinking of either the Fast Track Pro or the Firewire 410 (or possibly the Firewire Solo) all from M Audio.

Does anyone have any opinions on what the best choice would be?

Will adding this be enough to give me the much higher quality audio I'm looking for?

I want it to be high enough quality to submit for most jobs on Voice123.

I'd like to have something 100% portable if possible.

Thanks! Dave
