I have heard good and bad about soundforge. Personally, I believe the bad comments are due to people not reading the manuals.
I just wanted to get a few opinions before going out and purchasing this soundforge 9. Looks like a sound editing system and frankly I would have to be nuts to not pick it up. |

There is some reason conversation about editing software including Sound Forge here:

I just received Sound Forge and Acid Pro Free after Rebate, but haven't tried it as of yet. I'll report my opinion on it once I have on.

Hey there Jason...
I've still got SoundForge7.0 running, and got no problems with it at all.
I also use Acid (for multi-track mixing), and Magix Audio Cleaning Lab (for any latent noise issues).
All in all, SoundForge is a great value for the price, esp. if you're just recording VO stuff...
IMHO,

I have been running sound forge ever since 5.0 was out! Great editing software! I've never had a problem with using Sony Software.
Numerous filters and processes bundled in. AND there are even more plugins to download.
The only thing I wish Soundforge8.0 had is an effect/process chainer so you could be able to adjust multiple effects/processes while the audio is playing. ACID 5.0 has this, but I usually do not like to use it for recording my mic. |

I recently loaded a trial copy of Soundforge Audio Studio 8.
I won't be buying it. I will stay with Goldwave. It ain't even close. |

I looked a Gold Wave
I down loaded Gold Wave trial version. I am using Sound Forge 9.0B, been a SF user for about 12 years.
On Gold Wave could not find a way to set bit depth, its right there on Sound Forge set up window. The ability to zoom in and enlarge the wave file to aid in editing is not available on the wave file in Gold Wave, It is on Sound Forge. Gold Wave only uses Direct X plug ins. So the VTS plug in I have won't work. Can't find anything like Wave Hammer a really nice utility on SF.
All in all Gold Wave is good at a good price point. Sound Forge is superior for the person who needs more functionality.
I deleted Gold Wave. It was not a fair match. Sound Forge has become one of the most used editors in sound for a good reason. It has the beef. And another thing, when ever I have had any issue with SF, the customer service dept has been top notch every time. |

SF user here. In fact I used all of the Sony pro series: Acid Pro; DVD/CD architech; Vegas; Cinescore for that matter on a custom dou core intel running XP pro since vista does not support the software as of yet.
I eq (when I'm allowed to--not so much for auds but pre production on other projects) and compress via pre amp before going digital as much as the project dictates and do very little tweaking in SF but it's there as an option nonetheless. |
