|
|
| ok, so I auditioned for a job with a marketing firm. Didn't really have a clue as to what they did. I got picked and now they want a number and I have NO CLUE what to propose. The gig is :30 and :60 commercials to be aired on Comcast's new channel "Luxury Living on Demand". Anyone got any ideas? I don't want to lowball obviously, but they have a ton of scripts 9they want to send 10-20 at a time) and it's on-going. HELP!!! |

Yowzer, September!
You've either hit the motherlode, or are in for a motherin' load.
Personally, I'd go 350/550 per completed :30/:60, including buyout. I mean, it's comcast; not FOX.
I've no idea what you mean about the "10-20 at a time".
But if it's ten, fifteen, or twenty spots, the 350/550 drops to 175/275 and you multiply it out by the number voiced and returned.
Alternatively, establish a retainer fee ($4000 a month comes to mind) and sign a six-months contract where you do everything they send you up to a certain max.
That's the way I'd do it.
Avarice On! |

| Thanks guys! and what I meant was, they want to send 10-20 scripts at a time for me to voice about once every 2 weeks or so. Right now, we're playing the "who will blink first" game. He's asked how much, I've replied that I'm flexible as it's on-going work so what kind of budget are they looking at. |

September - is this "Luxury Living On Demand" thing something that's being produced locally, nationally or...?
I have a hunch that it's one of Comcast's "On Demand" channels that's offered to your local Comcast cable outlet. Then your local guys take it out and sell spots to the local merchants. Spots that would only air in your local area.
If I'm wrong, and your spots would air more widely then Mr. Jadah is right on.
If they only air locally you'll have to remember that local cable companies rarely pay much for talent.
Playing the "who blinks first" thing works, too. Good luck. _________________ www.voiceover1.com |

Wow nice score September!
Go to V123 Main site and under additional tools click on Resource Center
Then Look for link 1. Resources for Voice Seekers and Buyers, click on this and then click on How Much Are Talents and Voice Producers Charging for Non-Union voice over Work?
It is a sheet which lists the median and the average in USD for various kinds of work...somewhat similar to what you will find with an AFTRA sheet. They kind of break it down for you and at least it gives you an example from which you can make your own decision. Allegedly, this sheet was the result of a massive survey
(Base Rates. These rates have been calculated by surveying and averaging Voice123 non-union voice over talents with two or more years of experience as voice overs*. Prices in this document are averages or medians for suggested minimums (base rates). It is up to the talent and voice seeker to negotiate the actual rate, possible buyouts, and residuals**.)
Hope this info helps, good luck! _________________ Jon Robbins-Acting With Voices

thanks Jon!
..and I really do need to see if they air locally or not. The one sample script he sent was for Kohler. Just the brand, not a store. So, I don't really know. Maybe some of them would be used nationally and some locally. We'll see if he blinks first and give me a number. I hate the waiting game!...but very happy I got this gig any way about it! |

|
|
Hey all - I'm still pretty new to the VO game, and was wondering if some of you pros could tell me what kind of quote I should give for a 3500 word instructional script. (Something like a hi vs low range as opposed to ballpark figure.)
Thanks!

I wouldn't expect Comcast, Insight or other cable operators to be interested in exclusivity. But, good to bring up the issue for discussion. _________________ www.voiceover1.com |

Hi Maxine,
I do some "channel" work at both the network and station level, too, so I understand your point.
However, we're really not sure if this gig September is up for is local or national. If it's local, my bet is that exclusivity won't be an issue since it appears that she would be voicing for various clients within the channel and not an exclusive image voice promoting the channel.
Indeed, exclusivity is a factor when pricing, and I'm not trying to minimize it's importance, but it may or may not be applicable in a channel situation. _________________ www.voiceover1.com

Thanks you guys. Great info to know! Very cool that you all are so forthright with your experience.
Max - that's a great example of comprehensive pricing parameters; that's awesome.
