I have been asked to quote on a project over 4000 words, which at my normal rate would be $0.20 per word..my only dilemma is they want most of this in separate files. Do you charge your regular rate for multi files or add on for the extra time.
I recall seeing this mentioned before but can't find it.
Thanks Lynne |

I charge a premium for several things, including multiple file splits.
Here's a few:
Time matching to video
Character and accent voices
File splits
Sound Effects and Music
Complex editing
Of course the amount varies based on the project specs and how much I want or like the client... No real formulae for me, but just some rules of thumb...
I'm Thumb-buddy,

I'd bill'em $1000 and call it a day. Give'em what they want. _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com

Thanks Joe and Colin,
I had thought of the amount that Colin mentioned, but then second guessed. It's that "have to justify how I came up with the amount", I'm sure I'll get over it one of these days.
Joe, I would have a major brain malfunction figuring in all those variables!

| Last Friday I delivered a client the audio for one script that was broken down into 1654 separate files (honestly!). The actual recording took about 5 percent of the time of the total project. Obviously I couldn't charge anywhere near the price that I would charge if it was just one file. Thats one of the many reasons I nearly always charge per finished job. I look it over and decide what it is worth to me and what I think I can get from the client. I would figure out how long you think it will take you to edit and bill those hours as if you were voicing. |

Erik's got it. Look at the job and decide what it's worth. Comes with experience. _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com
