Somebody just reposted a job, only this time they asked for local "New York" talent only. Even though I live in Ohio, I submitted my demo. After all, the budget was in the $2000-3000 range, and for that, I can fly in, record and fly out the same day for $500 (even less with advance booking in coach). I figured, if you like what I can do, your budget is worth me making the expediture to do the job. Was I out of line?

Man, if you'll get there at your own expense, I don't see a thing wrong with it.

Hey Brice, stay outta New York! This town has enough talents!

Actually, the client just wants to know if you will be available to record in their studio in NY, not if you live here full time. If you are willing to travel at your own expense to get the job done then you have every right to audition for it. I don't see anything out of line about it at all.

Except....they might want re-do's and that's why they want the local talent to come in, on short notice. OR they might want you for call backs for more jobsm cuz they like you so much! (yea!)...so you would have to weigh all that and see how it works for you, economically, right? Otherwise, go for it!

Good point Debbie. I guess you would have to be honest with the client and see if they are OK with the situation.

I'll have to cancel my trip to Ohio.

Did you notice this was the same script posted a week ago (Jun 7),

only then it wasn't NY local and was answered by 428 Talents!

In times like these, it’s important to know the facts about sexual assault.

Rape and sexual assault are acts of violence that can happen to anyone. Most victims know their attacker; it can be a boyfriend, husband, co-worker, or even a family member.

But there ARE ways to protect yourself, using common sense can help keep you safe. Travel in well-lit, busy areas, avoid known trouble spots, and stay away from people that use anger as a means of control.

And though it’s unpleasant to imagine, it’s important to know what to do if you find yourself in a potentially dangerous situation. Report any assault to the police immediately. Seek medical attention. Remember, the sooner you tell someone, the sooner you can get help.

Awareness, education and communication are the keys to prevention.

Learn how to protect yourself from acts of sexual assault or what to do if you become a victim. Visit www.ncpc.org for more straight talk about sexual assault. That’s www.ncpc.org.

Keep the odds stacked against attack.

Oh how depressing... I answered that one. Out of all those talents (and some really good ones posted here) they couldn't find a one.

As soon as I saw they wanted local talent I deleted without even opening the lead.

Ouch.

Debbie and Erik both made good points about the possibility of retakes and the necessity of being honest with the client. I'll be honest, I hadn't thought about retakes. I figured since it's from the Ad Counsel, the copy would be honed down to final FINAL status by the time it got to me, and that any mistakes I made would be caught in the studio. As to being honest with the client, I told them upfront I was in Ohio and would be willing to travel on my dime to do the spots. That's about as straight as you could be.

I'm in Canton, the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. For those not familiar with Ohio, Canton's about 20 miles south of Akron and about 50 miles south of Cleveland.

I'm in Columbus. Live in Pataskala, a suburb. I certainly know where Canton is.
