I auditioned for a few gigs at the Voice Acting Alliance, and landed one. Then I was told I wouldn't get paid for it, and that everyone over there just did the stuff for fun.

Confused Question Question Question

I thought it looked like a big teenager hangout, but I figured that it was the nature of the beast, with all the anime they work on. Is this the norm over there? Needless to say I was dissapointed.

I know a few of you are familiar with VAA, so I am posting this here, among pros. Pardon the questionable venue for my questions.

VAA is mostly amateur stuff. Every once in a while someone will come along and offer pay for work, but mostly it's pro bono. Smile

Nevertheless, don't knock it. It's a good place to get experience and its a line on the resume!

I actually used to be really active over there and have gotten the random paying gig, but yeah, it's pro bono work. It is mostly teenagers and a lot of projects don't get completed...nature of the beast. Needless to say, doing that kind of work has really given me a chance to read a lot of copy and I'm happy for it. Doing freebie stuff like that is how I got into voice acting to begin with so I can't complain! Smile
