Does anyone know what "Red book level specs" means?

It was stated in an audition sent to me, and I am having trouble finding any information out about the subject.

thanks, lynne

Hi Lynne, it's just an audio standard for CD quality: 2 channel, 44k, 16 bit. You probably already record at that standard.

When in doubt, you can search Wikipedia, which has an article on just about everything, including the Red Book audio standard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Book_%28audio_CD_standard%29

Absent that, you can Google it. The Internet is full of information. Right?

Another unsolicited tip: you've probably gotten auditions asking for a particular celebrity voice or delivery and needed a primer to see if it's something you can do: in addition to the usual Internet searches, YouTube is a great place to look. It's a community for sharing video and there are videos on everything, even stuff you can't get on DVD. Hell, I think even NASA lost the original film for the first moon landing, but you can easily see it on YouTube. It's a great web site.

You probably saw an audition about a month ago asking for a Madonna type delivery: it was easy to find that particular music video on YouTube. I just searched "Madonna" and "Justify My Love" and Voila! Audition in the can! Definitely check out http://www.youtube.com/

Thanks Nikki,
I have saved all the suggested sites in my favorites, I was beginning to wonder whether there was such a thing as red book specs!

While I am sure you and I are not getting the same leads, youtube is somewhere I'll keep my eye on, who knows, I might have to use it for a British band I've probably never heard of!

Have a great holiday season
Lynne
