Hey, lemme tell ya... if you guys were to offer affordable coverage under a group plan, that would be a huge membership perque for me.
Gotta allow for spousal and child coverage too.
So, is that where this is heading?
Hmmmmm?

For the past 8 years or so, roughly, my wife and I have had to provide our own insurance coverage for a family of four. We've had it thru various carriers, Mega Life & Health, Blue Cross, and right now with MidWest Life. It hasn't been too bad for a family of four.... around $450/month, but that's with no dental coverage.
But with my wife's new job at the Weather Channel we'll have coverage kicking in next month. Even so, we still have to pony up a couple hundred a month, but I am NOT complaining. We'll have health, dental, vision AND life insurance.

In considering doing VO full time, insurance is a huge concern. Right now I have it through my "day job." Close to $250 a month for the family plan, no dental.

Even though I'm controling high blood pressure and diabetes with pills/insulin - without a group - I am uninsurable and cannot get insurance in TN. Need something - and discount plans don't cut it.
I participate in Christian Healhcare Ministries and their members share each other's expenses.

Hello Dick - pleased to meet you!
Seems like the insurance companies are getting very restrictive on who they'll cover anymore. What's the point if they only take people in perfect health?
If you get a chance, please post a bit about yourself and goals over in the "Hello" forum too...
Welcome,
Joe J Thomas

I have it through my wife. I am very fortunate that she works for a great company that has a real good plan. It's not cheap, but what is these days?

Dick, I've also researched Good Samaritan Ministries who do the same type of thing that Christian Healthcare Ministries does. You may want to keep them in mind should you ever need to look elsewhere.

Right now I only have individual major medical. Group insurance through V123 would be a real attraction.
"Uninsurable?" That's just not right. Remember the good old days when insurance companies took risks along with the rest of us?

| We have insurance through my husband's work since I work part time. We pay $274 a week. Yes, that's right, a week. And that's with little dental (just offers a bit of a discount) and no eye AND it's an HMO. It is financially killing us. We're looking into other options but it's hard to compare apples to apples ie. some deductibles, doctor visits, copays, etc. Don't get me started about insurance companies. It's a long and not too pleasant tyrade.

My husband and I are self-employed, so my family of five is covered under an individual plan for about $10,000 per year. We had Mega Life and Health through the "National Association of Self Employed (NASE)" and they did not pay maternity benefits---much to our surprise, so we had a "cash" baby at an LA hospital --talk about OUCH!! I cannot say enough bad things about the pseudo-coverage...but ANYWAY
Now we have Blue Cross of CA.

Wow, I guess I have it good then. My regular job provides full BCBS family coverage at no cost to us on a monthly basis. We pay $15.00 deductible on doctor's visits and 80/20 after that up to a certain amount. Like my $10,500.00 wrist surgery cost me out of pocket just a little over 2 grand. They also provide dental insurance as well at no cost to us. We fear that this is going to end this year or next though. Even John Deere were my wife works has discontinued the great health insurance coverage they once used to provide. Just part of the times. I guess that is why for now I don't shut the door on my day job. Great job, but its the circus theatrics of the management on a daily basis. Same as most of you, I'm sure.

Hey Freddie-
I like others would be interested in a group plan.
I currently have an HSA with Catastrophic coverage. I really dig the tax benefits of it.
I also have some philosophical problems with health insurance. I tend to think medical care costs so much because of insurance. If no one had insurance, then we could afford to pay for our medical care like we pay for a gym membership.
But hey....I am probably crazy.
