PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LET THIS URBAN LEGEND DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been around since 1999. It's never worked, and it won't. This explains why not:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/nogas.asp

Here's a MUCH better idea that WOULD work... we change our lifestyles to eliminate gas-sucking, status-driven vehicles like SUVs, Trucks and yes, even sports cars (they suck gas, too). We carpool. We telecommute. We walk, bicycle or use public transportation where available. If we MUST drive we consider a hybrid or at the very least a very fuel-efficient vehicle. And so on......

Thank you, Scott, for providing Snopes. If it's in the least suspect, I always go to Snopes. Pass it on!!!

And, check this out----you never see more than one person at a time in a Hummer.

unfortunately, Lynn, it's true. what about this ... why don't we build a few oil refineries here in the US? there hasn't been one built in over 30 years. then we can extract the oil from under our own soil (ANWR, prudhoe bay, gulf of mexico) and eliminate the need for foreign oil for the next 30+ years. in that 30 years we can focus our efforts on new technology like cold fusion, hydrogen, et. al. and free ourselves from not only foreign oil dependency, but fossil fuels all together. we put a man on the moon in less than 10 years - surely in 30 we can accomplish this.

steps off soapbox.

It's ok Cira, I guess I live a sheltered life! Coming from a country where you walk everywhere to an over indulgent one is frustrating for the most part.

Scott, I agree with the eco way to go, and did write to the local government asking as to why only one car pool lane if they are trying to promote car pooling..needless to say, they didn't respond!

Todd, a great idea, so why isn't anyone acting on it?

Correct me if I'm wrong Brits, but this past year a law was past in England to charge higher taxes or penalties for SUVs etc, and also a fee to drive in London, which makes sense to me, people are now using public transport more than ever. What is wrong with the U.S that we cant make changes to better serve the environment and our pockets?

Speaking of car-pool lanes, or HOV lanes, here's a HUGE gripe I have....

I used to drive a Honda Civic hybrid. Got around 45 mpg. But if I was in it by myself, I couldn't drive in the HOV lane. BUT a Hummer with 2 people in it COULD. So a Hummer gets 11, maybe 12 mpg. With 2 people in it, it equates to 22-24 mpg/person vs. my hybrid at 45 mpg per person. Okay, so if the HOV lane is PURELY to cut down on number of vehicles, then fine, but they also allow motorcyclists to use it. Makes no sense to me.

Scott

If I could add to the carpool tirade. I am one of those who uses the carpool lane to drive my family around. Certainly the once-in-a-while uses of a vehicle is nothing compared to changing the daily commuting habits of millions of people. I am personally glad to bypass the traffic, but guilty too of not helping to solve the problem. It's not as if my children would have been taking their own cars if I hadn't driven them (in a few years, maybe!)

I say let the High MPG cars get a better break and make carpool lanes for three or more--that might help a bit.

My two pennies,
Lori

It's called freedom.

I kinda like it, but I realize that some just can't handle it.

So, if you want all these problems solved, just cede all your freedom, rights and liberties over to me and I will fix everything. That has always been the promise of statists, who are really authoritarians, who are really totalitarians. Be careful what you ask for, you might get it.

What does any of this have to do with the business of voiceovers?

Don, fair comment,

I think in reference to voice over, for the most part we all walk to work, my travel distance is 10 strides, thus saving on precious resources, and the cost of gas Very Happy

I'm just having a general gripe, and "hope to save the world" day.
