Hi. I'm a little green to the VO biz and some wise words would do me a world of good. I've been doing this for a few years now and luckily things are going relatively well but i'd really like to break into the bigger markets... maybe you guys could help a damsel in distress???

Khristine:
That' s one sweet little 'ol voice you have there....
It works extraordinarily well on the energetic ends. The Bar, Cool Kat, and Felines clips were boffo...super.
Conversely, though, it seems much less convincing with slower stuff like the opening and VW; almost pancake-flat by comparison.
I'd certainly not open with that "home" bit; it invites an early and unfortunate 'STOP' button.
I have the same conundrum in reverse. When I try car ads or high-octane, up-tempos, I sound like an over-caffeinated Eeyore.
I think the only help for us is to listen carefully to other pros doing our weaknesses, and then (sigh) practice, practice, practice. Keep in mind, though, that some tones just aren't made for some styles.
Maybe we should stick with our strengths.
For your demo, that'd be my suggestion. Knock out the two snoozers and add another jolt or two. Or maybe try a semi-dramatic "little girl" read....(like a charity pitch). Your voice has that unique, young sound.
That'll bring 'er home...
Voice On!
