Hi, I posted in the "idol" section too but I would really like the "pros" to give me some feedback on my first ever attempt at a movie trailer type of read. Obviously I don't have the perfect voice for this type of delivery but if I do it first thing in the morning before any coffee it sounds a bit better, a little deeper and a little rougher...any way, would love some thougts from some of you movie trailer types! Thanks a lot!

Scott - did you add any effects to your track? I'm hearing the faint hint of two voices, which can sometimes result from certain filters applied to the track. Not sure what the spot was for -- your voice quality sounded good, but your read was a bit ... lugubrious, for lack of a better term. But, perhaps that's what the spot called for?

Also, if your voice is not naturally in that "movie-trailer guy"/"voice of god" (oh who are we kidding, if you don't naturally sound like Don Lafontaine) it's going to be a rare thing that you'll get a call to do a "voice of God" movie traler spot. Producers (if they're pros) will hear right through any effects and that will be that.

You should post a full demo (if you haven't already) to give us a sampling of your range. That will draw the best critiques for you, methinks!

Good luck!

About 6 or so years ago I decided that I wanted to be the next Movie Tralier Voice Wonder for the world. Why..........because I could do it pretty damn good. 2 problems.....I don't live in LA to establish myself and good ole D. LaFontaine already has that "nitch" covered. The producers in LA want you to come to the studio to read and LaFontaine has (had) a Limo that cruised him around the town all day long. Even my current Voice 123 Variety demo still has 2 Movie Trailers one it, BUT I have never been hired for a trailer. Let LaFontaine and a few others have it & find a nitch that keeps you going and then work on a NEW nitch that might catch on. S. Whatley

A few more things....Mr. Hinshaw is correct and from what I have heard, all Movie Trailers are done on location IN L.A. EXCEPT Mr. LaFontaine. He used to use a Limo to take him to all the studios but now he does it at his home studio....again in LA. An exception he has earned.....or maybe demanded. He has the clout to do that.

I was not looking for TV imaging work and lo and behold I get a call from a contact with the NHL's Buffalo Sabres (best ever player? Pat LaFontaine Very Happy ) I had previously worked on a project with and I'm their man with my movie trailer type read.

I encourage everyone to be positive and NOT to limit your dreams or your niche markets.

Sincerely,

Ralph Hass

Thats great Ralph. Actually thats more of a "sports" read rather than the Movie Trailer category....which is more of a "half-voice". Good job!!

I have an interesting gig that came to me via the net a few years ago and has proven to be a steady, albeit not terribly well-paying, job. A local L.A. producer was cruising the net looking for voice talent and somehow or another found my website (www.voicebyscott.com) and contacted me. He produces videos for the World Boxing Hall of Fame..... for their annual awards banquet and other such things. I have since become the 'voice of the WBHOF" which is pretty funny since I know absolutely NOTHING about boxing!

A sidebar; the producer once asked me if I could do a read in Spanish. Well, I took a little spanish in high school and college, so I gave it a try. He said... "nice try, but..............." Wink
