Hey all

I've recently been immitating the advisor from the oldschool game Dungeon Keeper. Tell me what you think and how I could improve.

Advisories

Spells

All background music is my own original work. strichauge

Pretty close! Wow, that's a blast from the (not so recent) past!

Do you really want criticism? Or just playing around? I'd have to see if I can dig the game up to really critiqe, but just going off memory I think you captured the essence but your vocal quality is not quite there on the "Advisories". And by "quality" I don't mean "skill", I simply mean the natural condition of your voice -- the timbre, to a degree. I think mostly it's that I can hear the "youth" in your voice. Whether or not YOU are young, the flavor of your voice is. I don't know how else to describe it, sorry. Maybe to say that the natural center of your voice doesn't sit as low as this character voice "demands".

I liked the "Spells" reel.

EDIT: Weird - I listen to some of your other demos and you're actually in the lower pocket with your voice, so I'm not quite sure what I'm hearing or not hearing on the first DK reel. Hmmm ...

In any case, you've got some talent for this. I don't know if you've worked with a coach, but you might want to just for the sake of some performance polishing. Also, all your demos revolve around games it seems, which isn't bad in itself, but you definitely have the versatility to show off and I think you should!

Thanks for your words! Some great and logical feedback.

I agree that my voice isn't quite as low as the original advisor in DK. It's hard to say if he had the pitch of his voice lowered or not - listening to the spells I'd say definitely, but listening to his advisories it sounds more naturally his own pitch. There was a point where I was going to lower mine as well but I decided to keep it natural and just go with my own pitch. The spells, however, demanded the pitch be lowered. Very Happy

Here's a pack of the original spells from DK I extracted with a program called PSound.

Thanks again for your feedback! Much appreciated.

Oh, almost forgot your voice-over was quite entertaining. Different! Reminds me of the prompts you hear when playing the video game.
