Hey guys,

So I'm newbie as far as it comes to the LA scene, but I've been doing the voice over thing for a long time. I get all of my work primarily online through voice123, people running across my website and through the Los Angeles craigslist. Occassionally, I'll get a local audition from the online submission, but for the most part, it's all done online.

So, I was wondering, what time of the day auditions usually are? I have a 9-5 day job right now, but they're talking about letting me switch my shift to early morning or later in the day so I can go to auditions.

Do a lot of agents currently do everything online and have you record from home? Or do you usually have to go into the studio?

I'm getting some pro demos made soon... and hopefully will be working on getting an agent, but for now, I'd just like to have a better idea of WHEN auditions happen. Smile

Hi Michelle,

I've been in LA about 4 years now. My current agent has me do most of my auditions from home, but that's mainly due to my home equipment and the fact that we've worked together for a while (good direction can be key).

Most of the auditions I've driven to have been during "regular business hours" (ie. 9-5). They took place at my agency for the most part, but occasionally at another studio.

Agents understand that we have "other" jobs, and so are a bit flexible on timing. Ultimately though, they want you to make money so they can make money. If they know you're always free in the afternoon, or at lunch, they can probably work with your schedule.

Hope this info helps a bit - take care,
Joe J Thomas

Thanks Joe! That's good to know. Smile

I went to your profile. Sounds like you're doing really well! Congrats. I actually am in a course at Blupka right now. Smile I love it. I've also taken one other course there.

Thanks again.

Wow, small world indeed. Cynthia's fantastic - she did my Animation and Commercial demos. Great techniques too.

So, who do you do Audio Drama with? I'm with a group called Dream Realm Enterprises (www.dregold.net).

Your personal site's nice. Love the color choices, and it's easy to navigate too.

Great to meet another LA local from the midwest - take care,
Joe

Thanks Joe! My husband designed my website and took my headshots. Smile He's a fabulous headshot photographer and web designer.

I do a lot of low-pay and amateur audio drama with groups found on VoiceActingAlliance and then a company called Everlasting Films. It's really great practice for me.

Cynthia did your demos? That's great to know! I am probably going to go to her for my demos when I can finally afford it. She's such a kind, nuturing teacher. Smile I love my classes with her so much.

Wonderful to meet you too! Smile
