Hi Bobby,
That sounds good, but I'd like to hear the P-Solo directly into your interface - I think you'll prefer it. I'm a happy P-Solo owner, but I haven't been thrilled with sending it through other preamps. The P-Solo has a very "etched-in" high end and a very extended low end that gets kind of smeared when sent through some other gear.

The True seems to smooth some off the high mid honkiness that a 103 can sometimes have, but the high end sounds a little brittle through the exciter...but it is much more sparkly! Also, the lows sound more consistently present and smoother.

I find the low end of the True isn't very pumping/dark/or heavy (like say a Great River)...but it's really smooth and works great for vo...especially how it sits in a mix: it won't muddy things up at all.

With the help of my old friend "User Error" I managed to blow the fuses in my P-Solo three days ago. I immediately emailed True, and the president wrote right back to me and express-shipped me a free set of replacement fuses. The great things I've heard about their service is true.

Attached is my Heil PR40 unprocessed and then with processing similar to yours but done via free vst plugins in Cubase Wink. This is the sound of the True going straight to the interface/soundcard. I've heard of other people being very happy with their dynamic mics (especially the SM7b) through the True fwiw...

Enjoy the new pre!

Both cuts have a granular sound throughout which is slightly harsh. I too would like to hear both without the dbx.

Bobby - I'd like to hear it just through the P-Solo, also.
The 286 might negate the nice sonics of the P-Solo.

"Five" on the drive and density of a 286A is pretty aggressive.
The files sound a little "boxy", could be the compression pulling
in the "room".

My suggestion; get it sounding good and competitive, and then...LEAVE IT ALONE!

As requested, here's the P-Solo straight with no chaser

Thanks Bobby!

That sounds better, but there's still some harsh ringing to it which seems like a room acoustics issue. Now what I'd like to know is what is your interface/soundcard, and what kind of computer are you running it on? Does it have any superfluous programs running?

Also, what is your recording software, and can you do expansion, compression etc. post-recording?

Well, as far as an interface goes,..I'm using an M-audio fastrack, and I'm planning to upgrade but I get mixed messages as to what will sound best: USB, Firewire, or soundcard..

For software, I'm using Adobe 1.5
