Hey everybody! I'm the newest newbie! My name is Jane E. Morgan. I've been in radio since the Thriller album came out, and Elton John was still "in."

I'm in the process of putting together a studio in my home, and I welcome any and all advice!

I'm going to have a computer built (I think, unless it costs a fortune) and I need some help. So, any suggestions on RAM, soundcard, and all the other stuff I have no clue on, would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Jane,

Welcome to the fold

I hope you enjoy yourself and there is lots of information out in these forums for you.

As far as Computer Equipment and setting up your studio. I would suggest you read the post under "GEEK PLACE" . A wide variety of tools and hardware being used. i think it will help you make some decisions

Thanks

Tony

Welcome Jane,

This sponsored site by Voice123 was conceived with the idea of having a place in which to communicate in a more active way, where you can participate in open discussions, submit your inquiries, ask technical questions, suggest new ideas, get critique and feedback on your profile and demos, look for help and help others, find new information related to the industry or just share your mind.

We really want voice over Savvy Forum to be a gathering tool for the voice over community and a great resource for you.
We are hoping to see you around.

Welcome Jane,
I'm only one or two steps ahead of you. I've been a member since October 30....coming from the same era as you and a background in television news... My only advise is really utilize this this web site. There is vast knowledge to be gained from reading the different threads. I spend the majority of my time reading other people's questions and the great answers given by people 'in the know'. I've learned soooooooooo much! Also post your domos on the Demo of the Day thread to get honest feedback.
I've been so impressed with how giving and open people are to help. It's a great community of fun, talented and experienced professionals that I am so glad I've found.
The best of luck to you and remember it can get a little frustrating at times but push through and keep at it... Very Happy Marilyn Taylor

Welcome Jane.

While I'm new to the Voice123-crew, I've been in the biz since just before The Beatles hit. (But I still have my own teeth.)

What is your budget?

The reason I ask is because a set-up need not set you back a ton-o'-dough.

Having a computer built is overkill.

A pal of mine is running a Mac-book, a GBX combination Mic-preamp/compressor/gate and a Rhode mic.

(My own setup is somewhat more complex, but that's because we're producing full-blown spots.)

As you may have already realised from other threads, the recording software options are numerous and inexpensive.

That's it.

Best wishes.... RTR

Too late. I have a DELL on the way, with VISTA. I tried, but it wasn't an option. Am I totally screwed now?

I hope you don't want to run ProTools or use any M-audio interface because they don't work with Vista. I just spent four days pounding my head against a brick wall trying to blow out Vista and put XP on a new PC. Finally did get it done but it was a nighmare.
