But what if you have a spot that has music, sound effects and a voice-over with sentences that slightly overlap, a la a car dealer spot? Sound Forge is only a stereo editor. You need a multitrack editor like Adobe Audition. |
Not so sir. I do "multi-track" all the time with Sound Forge (did one today as a matter of fact...a car dealer spot). If you know what you're doing, no one can tell what editor the spot was created on unless you tell. I do have Cool Edit Pro, but rarely use it. To tell the truth, I'd rather use Sound Forge than Cool Edit (or AA). It's just as easy....to me. _________________ Allen Scofield

Sound Forge has a sweet little merge feature and as I learned last night, I insert just the right amount of silence on the front of my VO track then copy my slate to the clipboard, I can merge them perfectly along with mixing the levels perfectly.
I am liking SF the more I use it. |

How??? What about RECORDING different tracks att he same time, as in recording from different devices/sources? |

Your example was a "complicated" spot with several tracks (music, vo, sfx), NOT recording several different tracks at once as a TRUE multi-track. I have no need for recording several different channels/sources at the same time.
As per your example (a car dealer spot), I use the mix/paste function (Ctrl-M) to accomplish this. Basically layering the sounds on a single stereo track, including overlapping vo tracks, etc. Having all the tracks ready to go, the music track goes first, then lay the vocals in, then any sfx next. Very easy to do and very accurate. Levels are also easy to control. I rarely crank up Cool Edit anymore when I do need full production for any radio commercials. I'm just used to SF and when you're used to something, it's just easier (and quicker) to stay with it (as everyone knows).
Sorry if there was a misunderstanding _________________ Allen Scofield

Colin.....did you ever check out that link I posted for you to check out WaveLab 6? It's the last post on page 2 of this thread. Let me know what you think after reading about it. _________________ Cheers,

After coming of age, if you will, with grease pencils, razor blades or the multi track for very special occasions; I learned digital editing on Cool Edit and have stuck with that product line all the way up to Adobe Audition 1.5. I've played with AA 2.0, and it's very powerful but I think I'll stick with 1.5 for now. |
Oh don't get me wrong guys...I come from the razor blade/grease pencil era as well. I've been in radio 22 years and have put together many a spot with tape and razor blades. I started digital editing with Cool Edit and went from there. After I found Sound Forge, I really fell in love with it. SF was easier to use for some things than CEP. It's just as easy for me to mix/paste in SF as it is to use the multi-track view in CEP. I would dare to say almost easier. Sorry to gross you out Colin But...c'mon guys, to each his own. If I can accomplish the same thing using SF as you can with CEP/AA, what's the difference? The end result is the same (a great sounding spot) and the client doesn't care anyway. _________________ Allen Scofield

Tom... so much to do, I have not checked Wavlab out yet. I saw a demo of ProTools today though and I was very impressed. Damn their hardware requirements.
I think I once downloaed a demo of Wavelab but I can't remember what I didn't like about it. _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com
