Hey there voicers!
If you're new to the scene then you probably need to get yourself a demo. I PRODUCE! My services are low cost to you and it gets you a professional demo. Hugely positive trade off! Why get a kick butt demo made by me? It will get you WAY more attention with those generic submissions PLUS if you're on the hunt to get your first agent outside of voice123 my editing style will grab that persons ear and they'll go on a ride they won't forget. Why pay $500 upwards to $1500 for a demo when you can get one that sounds BETTER (because I'm really that good at what I do) for $150! Simon, I have to agree with Joe, there's a time and place for everything.

I do not see the point in waiting to post this. His ad is less commercial than mine was anyway.

So has anyone listened to his work before passing judgement? Honestly, $1500 is definitely too much to pay for a demo production, and if his work is good, then so be it. The customers will decide if the voice is good or not, the demo is only the vehicle. Sooner or later the beginner talent will realize that there is not much money to be made in the VO business, and it certainly isn't easy money. Only the best and those with niches survive anyway.

I guess Freddie didn't see this post because I put up two in different forums. I actually did feel cautious about posting for my service because I really didn't know if it was acceptable or not. I think the professional and acceptable thing to do would be to post in a dedicated forum. I'd really like that and I think it's a fair statment that nobody would mind it.

I honestly didn't think it would be a big deal. I just hope we can get a dedicated forum for services like mine. I really honestly love doing what I do. I just spend so much darn time when I do editing that it's only fair I ask for something.

It may seem like a lot, but consider this. When you're on a commercial session, chances are that the creative director/art director on the session spent a good deal more than that to make their own reel. As a voiceover talent, you're starting a small business! Most small businesses invest a few thousand to get started, and most don't make money their first 2 years (they're paying off their small business loan or reinvesting what they're earning back into the business). So really, if you consider your VO career as the small business that IT IS, a couple grand isn't too much to pay for a great demo! You can't get anywhere in the business without a WELL-PRODUCED, well-promoted demo. But if you DO have a great demo, you WILL be able to earn back what you spent on it. It's an INVESTMENT!

Also not true! Union talent will make some $450 for the session fee alone, and up to tens of thousands in residuals. voiceover can be lucrative!

This IS true. Promoting yourself as a talent and keeping your skills sharp takes serious work and dedication. If it were easy, everyone would do it.

Funny... I look at equipment as the investment (maybe because I am a geek) but with the equipment and my own creative ablity, I can create my own demo and alter is as I see fit... but that's just me.

I'm with you Maya... as I like to say... "a $5000 camera does not make you a photographer!" But if the creativity all goes to hell, at least you can still play with the equipment!
