Read an article on here somewhere by J.S. Gilbert about constructing an inexpesive box for voicing to eliminate noise. Great solution. Thought I'd share this one. When I built my studio I read all the articles on soundproofing, accurate dimensions, blah, blah blah. The problem I had was my monitors. I use a pair of non-powered Alesis studio monitors. I had them originally on my console, but was hearing reverberation through the table, even with insulation. I then mounted them to the wall. Even with soundproofing noise was traveling through the wall and could be heard. I then went online looking for different types of mounts. I came across a couple of free standing stands but they were about $150. I thought Hey! I can make these. Here it is:

1- 8ft piece of 4" diameter PVC pipe $10.
4- PVC Collars $16.
1/2 sheet of 3/4" plywood. $10.
1- 50 lb. bag of sand. $4. (guessing)

Cut the 8 ft piece of pipe in half.
Cut 4- 18'x 18" pieces out of plywood (2 tops, 2 bases)
Mount the 4 collars to bases and tops.
Insert both pipes into base collars.
Fill the pipes with sand.
Put the tops on.

The weight of the sand makes these really sturdy and tip proof, plus any reverb from the monitors is absorbed by the sand and the distance it has to travel. It solved my problem and took me about an hour and a half to build for about 40 bucks.
