George,
Well, I don't do sound proofing but I'd like to. I don't know if it would be fair for me to take a crack at that topic. It's pretty simple, deaden the sound with irregular shaped or absorbing material. Hard surfaces reflect sound. Put something behind and to the sides of the mic to avoid reflected sound also. JS seems to be the expert at that topic.
I sound pretty good without it as long as some external "event" doesn't occur. In my basement there is a bit of reflection but it's slight and sounds like a light reverb. I know this drives the purists crazy but I kind of like it. My basement walls are "poured" concrete with a fake brick texture so they are not terribly reflective and there is insulation half way down as well. Then I hung a comforter between me and my server some 20 feet away. You can see all this over in Studio Pictures. It's really "low rent" but you do what you have to. I'd love to build a room just for my studio but I don't have the talent or experience for framing and drywall. Who knows, maybe someday I will have the dough to hire a contractor to do it and then treat the walls with something. _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com

Sorry, my studio picture is gone. I've been uploading so much audio that I had to blow out some old stuff and it was a casualty. _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com

| Thanks Colin...Some good stuff there. Just one point though ,somebody earlier stated that you are more likely to get the job because your recording quality is so much better. I thought that on this site you were almost encouraged to give the client a low quality demo as its the voice they are interested in initially not the quality |

Mike, my theory is to give them the best damn audio you can but change the name of the company or the phone number or address or all three. Do something that makes it unusable. It seems couter productive to give them bad audio. They'll think... "gee this guy can't give us a quality audio file." _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com
