Tom, most of us do not record over a music bed while it plays as was common practice in the olden days before we had lace up shoes and running water and flush toilets.
Things are different today!
We lay down the voice track in raw form and then mix the voice track and the music track. The bad news is that we don't get to play with razor blades no more - the good news is the same as the bad news.
Your choice of mic should present absolutely no problem. |

Tom, I'm not very familar with the mic so I'm glad you got some advice from those who are. But, I would like to take friendly exception to Don's comments -
Recording over a music bed is alive and well. In fact, I have to do it regularly and would find certain projects impossible if I didn't have the ablility to do so.
While it's true that we no longer mix while we record, depending on the type of work you're doing, reading against a pre-recorded track, whether music or dialogue, can be an essential tool. Again, it depends on what you're doing. The nature of the project dictates which tools are necessary. If you don't do projects requiring this tool, it's certainly not needed.
But, I don't think I'd throw the practice in the closet with the highbutton shoes just yet. _________________ www.voiceover1.com |
