Ok, every once in awhile we see moments of complete idiocy. I witnessed one on Wednesday and it's been bothering me ever since. I thought "What possible good could come of this?". Well, today I figured it out.

You see, on Wednesday morning, Kathie Lee did this:

*sigh* Imagine if the word "Pagans" had been replaced with anything else like "Muslims", "Buddhists", or well, anything that isn't "spiders". I was and still am pretty raw about it. That's not just my belief system she's knocking...that's the person I am, the people my friends are.

But I looked for the good, and found it. It's people like you guys here at Savvy. People who have never scolded or teased me about my religion. People who know me for me and could care less who I direct my prayers to. I know I've been very open with my beliefs as well as have others who have differing views...and we all get along just fine. In fact, one of my closest friends on here, Scot Pollak, is a great Christian man and he has never treated me with anything but kindness, respect, and sincere sweetness. And I think it's something I might have been taking for granted, so thanks for being a meanie-head on national TV, Kathie Lee. You've shown me how wonderful true friends, no matter what religion they are, can be.

-Ember

September,
You are a much stronger person than I could ever be. Hats off to you, my friend. daumen rauf

Instead of looking at this with anger and resentment, you've found a way to appreciate your friends of all faiths and thank those closest to you at Savvy. Kuddo's to you September for being the kind and sweet person you are.

a catholic priest, a buddhist, and a pagan went fishing on a lake..

as the afternoon incarnation of the day approached, the catholic priest noticed they'd left their lunches on the shore about 200 yards away..

the buddhist said, "i'll get them", and stepped out of the boat and walked on the water to the shore, picked up the lunches, and walked back on the water to the boat.. "here you go", the buddhist said...

the catholic priest, w/ the look of a stunned mullet on his face, haltingly stuttered out that the buddhist forgot his own lunch.. the buddhist, ever detached, said, "i'll be okay"

"nonsense", said the pagan. "i'll get your lunch" ... so the pagan stepped out of the boat, and walked on the water to the shore, picked up the buddhists lunch, and walked back on the water to the boat, and gave the buddhist his lunch..

once again the catholic priest was stunned, but managed to stutter out, "how? how? how? .. i ... i .... ummm... how?"

the buddhist whispered to the pagan, "don't tell him about the rocks" .. to which the pagan replied, "what rocks?"

BLESSED BE, 'EMBER !!!

lets go muss up kathie lee's hair .. she'll be ruined Wink

Ember,

Wow!! It makes my heart sad to hear anyone demean someone's beliefs! What an insensitive statement for a 'celebrity' to make on a morning show. I have had it done to me, so I understand how it feels to have your beliefs judged by someone who doesn't really have a clue about any other religion, but their own.

I commend you for looking for the positive in that mean spirited statement. I personally have always believed there is something positive even in some of the darkest of circumstances if you only take the time to look. You took the high road instead of allowing the anger to stay with you. You are an joy to know and I think many people could learn a great deal from the choice you made.

Thank you for sharing!!

Ember....

First off, Kathie Lee is... well, I'll say it... an idiot. Sorry to say it, but it's true. I've caught her on the Today Show a few weeks ago, and honestly, I can't believe she's still on there. She's CONSTANTLY saying the wrong thing, CONSTANTLY insulting... just awful. I seriously only listened for 90 seconds and came to this conclusion and had to change the channel. And, I thought to myself, "How long is she gonna last on there?"

I had friends in NYC who took a couple of courses on the Pagan religion, and they were really getting into it... that's cool. Had a neighbor who used to beat drums during the full moon... that's cool. Point is, it really doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you live a good life, are respectful of others, helpful, kind... you get my drift. You're all of the above.

I played the video on my computer in my room, when I heard coming from the next room my flatmate shouting "who's that idiot you are listening to?!"
It says it all, right?
Forget about her! It's not worth your attention.

Who's Kathy Lee?
I've never heard of her....
See? Living at the other end of the planet DOES have some advantages! Smile
Based on that clip, she doesn't sound like anyone I'd give much creedence to, anyhow.

I know, that sort of ignorance stings and there is waaay too much of it happening wrt religion.

I reckon you're taking the right approach....think of all the people that DON'T knock your religion - they're the ones that matter!

But, I would like to know.....what have you got against spiders?

Wink

Cheers!
Steve

Ouch. Sad What a horrible thing for her to say on national TV! I'm more Agnostic myself, but I have several pagan friends (one who was a High Priestess, actually - until she moved from Atlanta to Indiana and stepped down). I make music with these people and they're some of the sweetest souls I know. Music is one of those universal languages that we all seem to understand - and it doesn't matter about anything else other than the fact that we sound good together.

The same could be said about voice overs - which, though perhaps slightly more "corporate" in nature (depending on what you're voicing, of course), also has a very creative element to it. Creativity is a human trait - and we all have it. Doesn't matter what we believe. So I applaud you for taking lemons and making lemonade, September. Good for you. And keep on creating! That's how you'll please whatever higher beings or powers matter to you most.

Steve.....Every year here in America there is a Miss America Pagent and there used to be a Miss USA beauty pagent. Nobody can ever remember the names of who won last year or ever except with a few exceptions. Kathy Lee and Venessa Williams...... I can think of one other name Ms. White. She used to post on these boards. She tap dances. What ever happened to her?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdusgXW_Wi4....Do you know who Venessa Williams is?

I'm not a Pagan.....but I did enjoy playing an Egyptian Goddess in the Saqqarah Video Game. I bet you would really enjoy that game September. Have you played it yet?

Ember-

Personally, I think she was trying to inflect sarcasm... which is hard to do if your vocal range doesn't include any fancyvoices...
Honestly, I didn't get the impression that she was a player hater in this clip really...

(Wow did I just defend Kathy Lee)

Anyway,
GO STONEHENGE!

Thanks for all your comments guys! Smile

Do I think she has anything really personal against Pagans? No, I honestly don't. I think it was an ill attempt at some sort of humor. But the thing is, a good percentage of the Pagan community is a bit skittish about these comments simply because of the history with the Church. For the most part, the Pagan community has let it go and some have done so out of fear. Yet others are worried because "if people can get away with this, what's next?".

As for me, I found my good out of it and have encouraged other members of the Pagan community to do what I did and send small pink candles of love to her publicist. Two wrongs don't make a right and I have no intention of releasing the three-fold law back onto myself Smile Let there be peace and let it begin with me.

And, yes, Deby, I have played the game and it's great fun!! Very Happy

LOL, you're right Jacob, she probably doesn't even know who/what a Pagan is.

Personally, the issue I have with her is that pretty much every attempt she makes at humor is poor. I'm not a hatah... really, I'm not, but she is seriously the one celeb that really gets under my skin. What a coincidence.

Good for you for seeing past it and being the bigger person.

I'm a Christian, and yet I find Kathie Lee's comment insulting and appalling. It's also revealing of a complete lack of journalistic integrity and professionalism.

Good on you, Ember, for being better rather than bitter. But I hope someone at the network at least put her in her place for it. I'd like to see her make a public apology, like Mel Gibson and Don Imus did for saying really stupid, shallow, biased stuff in public.
