I'm creating my demo reels and plan on purchasing a domain.
my wife tells me that i should direct it to a blog instead of paying for a website for the time being ( to save money). does using a blog instead of a website make me look less pro? does it matter?

Interesting question. With new media, and the need for better and better promotion, this type of question will be coming up more and more.

When it comes to marketing. I always try to put myself in the buyer's seat. Websites are a one stop shop where a buyer can listen to demos, read a bio, see a resume, etc. A blog is basically one person's opinion on various issues. Does the buyer really care about your views? Maybe..but probably not. And when your blog is compared with really great sites by your competition, who do you think will impress the buyer more??

I say go for the website. You don't have to spend a ton of money these days to get a sharp looking site. Maybe you have a service you could barter with a web designer. But if you want to stand out, you need to be as good or better in your marketing than everyone else working in the business.

To get your own domain, try this link, supplied by Maxiine at the general CHIT CHAT thread

Inexpensive and worth the investment.
Good Luck! Laughing
