Has anyone had any experience with Marketing Mania? They have more strict qualifications, but do the get the business to match? Thanks in advance for any information.

Hi Haneen,

What makes you think it's a pay to play site?
To my knowledge, they are a regular production company.
I'm one of their voices (I've never paid them anything) ; when they have something suitable for me they ask if I'm available and interested, then send my generic demo to the client and if approved I record it and they pay me via paypal.
They are lovely, pay promptly, I've never needed to record a custom demo and the budgets are decent.
They are in the good clients category on my list. Very Happy

Edit: I've just seen on their website that they charge voices a yearly fee to be on the website. I probably didn't pay because I'm a foreign voice and there is less work for us.
I don't know if it's worth the money, I just know they are great people and operate like an agent (see above) except that I imagine that they take their cut from the start so we don't actually know how much. We just accept or decline the job with the fee on offer.

there will be no endless auditions, ratings and smartcast frustration with them though!

Claire,

I'm happy to hear they've been good to work with.

As I was writing this response to you, I saw your addendum. Yes, they ask for a $299 fee for a "web listing." Perhaps being a part of their "offline talent pool" is free? I didn't go through all of the demo pages to see if you are listed with a web page. Or, perhaps you began working with them before they charged a fee.

Anyway, it's always good to find another respectable source for leads.

Thank you for your thoughts,

Haneen

I was listed with MM for several years and recieved both direct projects and auditions with smaller pools. However, I decided not to renew the online listing when the number and budgets of the projects continued to decline. Very nice people though!

Thanks, Connie! I guess it's worth looking into even for an offline talent position.

Maybe my vision isn't what it used to be, but it looks like a pay to play site to me.

http://www.mktmania.com/voiceover-marketing.html#mm-website

Well you are probably correct. To be listed on the web page you pay. I'm paid up on 3 pay to play sites. One has worked out well for me, the other so-so and the last one, well lets just say I might as well have taken 250 dollars from my wallet and shredded it. Its always a chance on any of this.

Yes, I've reached my budget limit for pay-to-play this year...or, at least I see some real results!

Just in case some of you don't know, for only $99 per year (cash sent to me) I will ocassionally send you auditions and then not hire you.

But with my new CareLess System (tradmark pending) I can even promise a minimum number of auditions you won't get hired for per month. Only $99 and limited to the first 20,000 respondents only.

This offer void in Guam, Puerto Rico, The Tongan Republic and Tennessee

Cool, J. S. I was just saying to myself I wonder if anyone could possibly care less, and here you fill that void.

But -- will there be webinars? Please say there'll be webinars!!

I'm glad you asked Diane

Webinars and pod casts. So many in fact that we may jam the band width on the whole darn net.

Our first Podcast for example will feature 3,267 individulas who have all appeared on reality shows and represent the first person to get kicked off, voted off or asked to leave.

Far from household names, these individulas, many of whom used to work in the fast food segment, now all have talent agents and are pursuing careers in voiceover. Our featured speaker, formerly on the Bachelor will be discussing "Why it's hard to do a voice-over audition and show cleavage on the internet."

Our webinar will be featuring 782 people who have all written books on voiceover and they will all be competing in the first annual voiceover oyster shucking competition.

Unbfortunately do to our low annual fees, our podcasts and webinars will be havily subsidized and will be interrupted every 1.3 minutes for a 30 second promo on Mouth 2023, a cross between Burning Man and Disneyland, but for Voice Actors.

Sounds great J.S.... just one question: exactly how many auditions am I able to do (that I won't get hired from anyway) before you stop sending me leads?

Well, there's two factors at play:

The first is a complex algorithm that takes into acocunt numerous factors, such as Mars being in retrograde, the extra day of the year during leap year and the fertility period for the north american grey wolf. These are all then processed through a giant Oija board and then we may or may not pay attention to the data as it would suit us in any particular day.

We will at some point come up with another system that will replace the current system, but neither of them will be compatable with our computers.

I hope this answers your questions.
