I posted in LEADS AND READS - WEEK OF 4/14 TO 4/20 about a video audition I submitted for a touring one-man show based on Southern humorist and author Lewis Grizzard. And in that same thread I posted a follow-up that I'd gotten a callback.
Over a month later waiting (even after learning that my audition was the only one selected), and I finally got the job.
Starting out, I've been hired as a marketing and promotions assistant for the show, and as a performer I will be the understudy until I have all the material memorized and they're confident enough with my performance that I can do the full show on my own.
It's well over 2 hours worth of material even though the show time ranges from 30-90 minutes. But considering how the show is never actually the same and some material is tailored for specific venues and locations, and also because Lewis Grizzard authored nearly 20 books and wrote hundreds of newspaper columns...it will be a continual memorization process and a constant challenge for me doing this show.
But I'm really excited to be involved in this, especially since I was a fan of Lewis after reading one of his books in my early teens. And I'm very eager to get started.
Currently, there's only one show date scheduled between now and January 2009, and that's in Nashville in August. However, since one of the other reasons for my being hired is for my experience in marketing and promotions, I hope to help get a lot more dates booked in the near future. I will also be performing this for some smaller venues in the Atlanta area within the next two months.
So if you'd like to come see the show, I'm posting a separate thread on the Bulletin Board with updates.
But I'm just so incredibly excited about this opportunity. It's an enormous blessing God has just dropped in my lap. It's also the biggest gig I've ever gotten in my acting career, and has the potential to open doors for so much more. _________________ Founder/Host: The Voice Actor Appreciation Group
