Ok all you out there in radio land...

If you haven't read this story yet, let it be a word of caution: Darwin's watching you!

Quote:
A Sacramento radio station fired 10 employees Tuesday, including its three morning disc jockeys, after a mother of three died following an on-air water-drinking contest last week at the station's studios.

Huh. I'm glad no one did anything more than vomit when we held a Texas Pete drinking contest at the station.

Obviously no one would have really thought about or anticipated that such a stunt would have led to death. My heart and prayers go out to the woman's husband and family.

Yes, very tragic. I saw this story and immediately remembered about the hazing incident in 2003. It got a lot of coverage so I'm a little surprised someone thought to do this as part of a radio contest. Very dangerous. Dehydration can really screw up your electrolytes, so overhydration would presumably do the same. Obviously it does.

Todd, I think you've got the right idea. It's a good thing we don't have to drive to work. Wink

I have GMA on the tube right now. Can you believe the DJs knew about the college kid who died? During the contest one of them actually said "hey can't you get water poisoning?" And another DJ laughed and said "I guess we should have researched this before."

Yikes people! Stupid risks for ratings. I'm sure these guys feel terrible now, but really if they knew things could head this way, they should have shelved this contest idea.
