| I need some background music for a project I am doing and am asking for suggestions on where to get it. I have seen several stock music sites on the net, but wondered what other sources were available. |

| Sounddogs.com is my favorite. You can also buy some really good collections from Westar -- both downloadable and disks shipped to you. If you're looking for free music, royaltyfreemusic.com is an everchanging resource, but the terms are that you can only use it for free if your project is educational or nonprofit. It's on the honor system. |

Excellent and very affordable. I've built up a very nice library of mux and sfx from them over time. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

RUN, don't walk to digitaljuice.com and get 28 VOLUMES of their BackTraxx music for $99! Scott was the one who told me about Digital Juice. Admittedly, I've gone a little nuts with it. They had a $9.99 sale on some of their other music (StaxxTraxx--which is actually layered music) a few months back, and I've also taken advantage of their 4 issues for $99 deal. But when they listed 28 CDs of royalty-free stuff for $99, the credit card IMMEDIATELY came flying out.
Scott, I've been trying not to pull the trigger on the deal they have right now on SFX. How often do you really use them? Anyway, it's $99 for one of three volumes they list at a $495--(yeah right, like anybody pays that)--regular price. Your thoughts, sir?

Thanks for the affirmation, Doug. I actually GREATLY prefer the newer StackTraxx to the 28-volume Backtraxx, although at that price it's hard to NOT get the BackTraxx. I think the StackTraxx sounds more current and I personally use the layering options quite a bit to get exactly the sound or feel I need when doing production.
I've gotten my money's worth out of the SFX library, too, although I currently only own volume 1. But I also do a fair amount of freelance production for a local radio station, PLUS use the SFX in live plays that I direct. But the quality and diversity of Digital Juice's SFX library is somewhat limited in my opinion. The very best SFX library I've ever come across is by Sound Ideas, but it's quite pricey. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

I've had good luck with http://www.freeplaymusic.com/
Others mentioned in this thread are also very good.
Now I'm off to give digital juice a try.... _________________ Scott F.

Why is everytime I go to the digitaljuice site, I never can find these Backtraxx deals?
I have been looking at these ever since I read Mr. Pollack post about quite a while back.
Oh Well.

They no longer available. The great deal was a close-out sale. Staxxtraxx has supplanted the Backtraxx format. _________________ Scott F.

Occasionally the Backtraxx libraries pop up on e-bay, though their EULA may say that the license is non-transferrable. I have both Backtraxx 1 & 2, and while they do cover a nice broad range of genres considerably well, some of the stuff does sound synthy... their bread-and-butter is video producers, and sometimes you can tell.
If there are a few specific genres you want to cover their new StackTraxx line is generally much higher quality, it's customizable (you can render different mixouts of each track), and they're frequently featured in Digital Juice's specials (often the 4-for-$99 bundle deals). I have the Sports volume (sadly no longer available) and just re-imaged a sports-talk radio client using a lot of that package. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker
