Not fair, Dan. You just drenched that puppy with production tricks, didn't you?
Made it sound a trifle forced, just a tad artificial.
And Baghdad is a mite troubled.
Nice stab, though. Fun stuff.

| Hey no fair, I'm not allowed to use tricks yet, not been here long enough hehe. Um, don't get the bagdad bit? Thanks though for the giggle, was fun and know it was a little forced but hey, it's all about pushing yourself a bit and trying new stuff.

Dan:
Re: Baghdad. I was trying to demonstrate that my previous adjectives were somewhat understated, ie. it was a lot forced, and notably artificial, since that torn Iraqi city is more than a mite troubled and.....hey, I'm a voicer, not William Safire.

Phyllis.... I really liked your read on that, but it sounded really muffled, as if there was NO high end at all going on. Dunno if that was a low bitrate save on the file or what, but it wasn't crisp. But your read was delicious.
Nick and Dan... sounded like the Mafia was doing a movie trailer.
I think what some of us are missing here, just like over in the Orson Welles thread, is that it's not just the timbre and pitch of the read, it's the emphasis. Even though Phyllis emphasized it differently, she interpreted it in a way that sounded real. Many of the rest of us are missing the mark by focusing so much on the voice-of-God sound that we're discarding the feeling that needs to go into this.

I hate to be blasphemous here, but LaFontaine himself sounds "forced." Really good, but forced for sure.

I couldn't agree more (or less for that matter).
If someone's asking for a "natural read", DLF is not what to go for!
To tell the truth, I'm amazed at how the stylized read has persisted.
But, as long as clients still want "In A World", or "SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY" or even, "Hello folks!", there will be VA's to provide.
Market dictates, but sometimes innovation wins out!
My 2 red cents,
Joe

You’re right, I was experimenting and long story short, I blew out a driver and my speakers wouldn’t work so I decided to upload it the way it was. I’ve re-cut and EQ’ed it and uploaded this new crisper version, hope you find it crisp and | Scott Pollak wrote: | | delicious | too. Please let me know.

Yes, this needs to be read totally “in character” as a movie trailer voice. And it’s not just that – this is copy that I think is best read by a female (but not necessarily me). I mean, can you imagine another gecko promoting the Geico gecko? It would have to be some other animal without a British accent.

Phyllis,
Just listened to your two demos back to back, and while the second one isn't quite as muffled, it still IS muffled to the point that I'm aching to hear a bit of highs and crispness there.
Better watch it; your upper horizontal bars are smoky right now!
