I wouldn't worry about it, Lance.
I've gotten more gigs from non-rated leads than rated ones(that's reads, not 1's..ahhh..you know what I mean.)

Colin:
That was an original approach on Springs Pizza. Made me think of "Super Hero" which is probably what you had in mind too. Now they have a new angle: Spiro...Super Hero! which didn't show in the copy at all. I gave it a read but didn't submit. All I came up with was Mr. Happy Announcer.
No wonder you got a 5. When they hire you, charge 'em extra for the concept!

Oh what the heck... I did two today that are so much in my comfort zone I just wanted to share them. And yes, I DID, in fact, submit them 'produced' just because it felt right.
On the first one they wanted "...a 50+ sounding male for a commercial that is meant to be a "last letter" to his wife and delivered after his death. So the emphasis should be reading from the perspective of one final letter. This can not come across as "salesy" or hype. Just real honest information, and very emotional. It should initiate a tear in the eye of the listener."
Although for the life of me I can NOT imagine how this kind of copy can bring a 'tear to the eye.'
The other one is so much in Sid Whatley's area that it scares me. It's from voices-dot-com and they wanted a somewhat gravelly old 'cowboy'.

Colin -- really nice read -- got me so excited about heroes -- and I hate heroes, you know the bready kind, not the super kind.
And Scott, how ever did you read that after-death letter without laughing! OMG, THAT'S what the guy wanted to tell his wife after his death?!! How close they must have been. I thought at the end he was going to tell his brother to wait a bit before he went and married his widow!
Loved the other one -- well done.

Scott... you are a Wilfred Brimley in the making... and that's a good thing.

I always try to channel Wilfred when I am trying to be folksy and older. He kind of embodies that for me.
Scott does it better. Maybe in a hundred years when I'm his age I will be able to do it as well.

I wasn't going to submit a demo for the Springs Pizza thing becuse the budget was a little on the low side, but then when I read about how liberal they were in handing out the 5s, I figured I'd turn one in and try to get me a 5 too. It worked. I did mine "superhero style" because that's the image the copy conjured up in my mind.
I saw that "Last Letter" thing and it kinda creeped me out. I understand the concept and Scott did a really nice job with it, but to me the copy seemed almost like a suicide note. I decided to pass.
I did submit one for that horse syndicate from Voices.
And, finally, I don't think I have posted any of my demos for that Shark project. This is my Abe Vigoda-ish narrator demo.

September --
Absolutely beautifully done -- fresh, sweet, young and relaxed -- very easy on the ears!
