Hi Lance ~

Totally off the subject here perhaps, but just re-listened to your demos on your V123 page and, WOW!!! You are so very good! Your demos are really good. Yes, how good they are! Your demos are particularly good, great, really well done. You have an incredibly marketable, wonderful, trustworthy, and reassuring voice. I'd buy a house from you. Stocks from you. ANYTHING from you. Your voice just draws us in and makes us feel confident in anything that you're talking about. And the beauty of it is that it's genuine.

As afore mentioned, your demos are great.

xoxo

Thanks Lance!
...but your demo was pretty good, and you got a 2.
I'll be surprised if I get more than 1

...wait and see, I guess!

Thanks Maxine. It's good to hear because I have some stocks I need to unload. If anyone's interested PM me Wink
Seriously thanks, it makes me feel good because other than the industrial demo they're really old and not up to what I can do now as I learn more and more from the examples of colleagues like some of the good people here. Thanks again.

I'm not going to say how much I like your work because everyone's going to think this was a set up Smile ...but I do like your work very much!

That's absurd. If you were up against Cleese himself you might get a three. You did very well. This "seeker" has done poorly, and I'll restate what I initially retracted: that this guy has a read set in his head in his own voice pretending to be clever at a party and thinks everyone else isn't good enough.

I sincerely hope that either he finds nobody or whomever the seeker selects is a nightmare in the session.

oh well...that's the luck of the draw...
it really doesn't matter....there are more important things than worrying about ratings....
Beer, for instance!
Very Happy

Hey guys,

I've always suspected my wife has some voiceover ability, but tonight I'm amazed...

You know that shrimp lead? I opened it while we were watching TV, and didn't see myself climbing into that role. So I turned to my wife and asked her if somebody asked her to sound like a shrimp, what she would do. So she gave me a first attempt, then I pulled up the Shark Tale movie trailer to hear a sample of the character and played it for her a few times (and it was just ONE line that she got to hear).

Then, after an hour show, I went into the studio and recorded a few quick auditions, then asked her if she wanted to give it a try. She didn't seem much in the mood, but agreed. The result did nothing less than stun me. She required NO direction, though I did run the equipment. She did a total of four takes, and I chose the best lines from the four. I liked it so much I submitted it. Couldn't help myself, I just was really, really impressed with her raw talent.

Use EXTEME caution...it's another Washington Seatbelt audition...GAAA...

This one got a 4 from the seeker...I think because I didn't follow their direction. The examples they gave are rather soft-sell...I went over the top because that's how I felt it should sound. I think most people use buzz phrases like "real sounding" and "not over-the-top", but often when I hear the finished project, they choose the exact opposite. As far as I know, the gig hasn't been awarded yet.

Dan

Well, Dan, perhaps the seeker isn't quite the knucklehead we thought he was. Yours is far and away the best one I've heard.

Dan:

Good for you. You had the chutzpa (did I spell that right?) to give them something they didn't quite ask for and they liked it. It's an interesting character, but it's not Cleese, McDowell or the Geico Lizard. Makes me wonder why they asked for that in the first place. If a seeker gets good versions of what they ask for, but after hearing them decide that the concept isn't really right, well it's not the talents' fault, so why penalize them with a poor rating?

Again, yours is a very good character. But there were a good number of acceptable submissions for this job posted in this forum, and I'd consider mine to be one of them. My argument is with the seeker of course.

[i]To the seeker of this project in case you're participating in this forum:i] I would probably think twice before submitting to one of your projects again, not because you gave me a 1, but because there were several other auditions posted here that also deserved better consideration than you gave. Next time, try to be sure of what you ask for. And if you change your mind, that's fine, but don't put the onus on the talent if you decide your original idea wasn't right. We all understand that this is a creative process, subject to taste and you have the final decision. When you get a good audition but it's somehow not right for the project, don't blow it off with a 1 rating. That's just not cricket.

Dan, that was great!
applaus

Don't worry about the gig not being awarded yet- I'm pretty sure you'll get it!

So, Rule#1 of VO.....the customer might always be right, but they're not always sure exactly what 'right' is.
Therefore, don't give 'em what they want, and they'll want it!
irre

...my brain hurts...

Agreed, Dan. Yours was superb. I'm glad to see this seeker finally recognized some great talent when he heard it. I hope you land this one. And if you do, would you please do the rest of us a favor and be a real horse's ass for this client to work with?

David makes a great point about seekers dismissing "good" auditions that may not be right for the part with a "one." Why penalize a voice talent for trying their best? Just don't rate it all...and Scott...I try my level best to be "horse's ass" on a daily basis. If I get the gig...this client will get nothing less : ) I will agree that the seeker probably should have described what he wanted was an "over-the-top" John Cleese or something along those lines...I wouldn't even call what I used as a British accent...more Mid-Atlantic.

I thought I had some karma working, but I guess not. I got this lead for a company that makes concrete curbing. By an astounding coincidence, the town recently informed residents of my street that we are due for new pavement and curbing, and the crew was working right outside my house as this lead came in. Nevertheless, it rated only a 2. (Maybe it's because the town is installing granite, not concrete.)
