I've searched and found recommendations for off the shelf cables - but how many of you build your own cables?
Is it worth it?
What are some good names in the bulk cable world? What about decent connectors?

I can do the soldering, not a problem, been a Ham operator for a while now. As usual though, sometimes it's just cheaper to buy than to build.....but it never hurts to ask.

I like to build my own.

Cable to look at: Mogami, Canare, Gotham are all good.

Connectors: I prefer working with Neutrik but Switchcraft make good ones too.

Last time I ordered through www.redco.com. By the by, they will also build your cables for you with the components you select.

I also like to build. I generally use Canare cable and Neutrik connectors.

Build cables? hummm...I am looking for 25 feet of USB and roughly the same for headphone cable.

I like where one computer is and don't to move it but the keyboard is next to interfaced with garageband now I want to move the keyboard into another room but still leave it interface with garageband connected to the machine but need the cords to go from one to the other which will be run through the walls.

How much would it cost for 25 feet of usb and 25 of headphone cables

I'm not sure about diy'ing a usb cable. In practice they aren't supposed to be longer than 15ft or so if memory serves. However I do seem to recall some sort of adapter you could use with Cat 5 that allows a much longer USB run. You'll have to find some networking geeks. That's not my forte unfortunately.

Headphone cable is as easy as mic cable if you've already got the tools.

Thanks,,

I just checked out the link at redco and was wondering why the USB only went 15 feet...But now that you mention it must be because of some technical issues that am oblivious to..

Perhaps with the head phones can do bluetooth but the USBwireless?

Does it have to be USB? If you can switch to a ps/2 keyboard the runs can be a lot longer. May be cheaper than fooling with adapters and such. Just a thought.
